Beware.. Herman Miller has a new CEO as of 2018 and the Herman Miller Aeron chair much loved
By myself and millions has been remastered. I suspect that much of the dissatisfaction I am reading about has to do with people purchasing a “remastered” aeron chair after 2018. I sat in the classic for 14 years and whenever I had sciatic pain it was the only chair I could sit in... I put 2 and 2 together after my COVID retirement and realized that the reason I had been so comfortable and now was not was that I no longer was sitting in that chair .. I pulled the trigger and bought one a size C knowing it wasn’t a classic but was assured that the new aeron changes were only cosmetically different.. WRONG!! the word remastered was never mentioned and when I got it home was so uncomfortable that I researched it and found the difference much more than cosmetic.. and this is the C chair... shorter seat pan, enhanced forward tilt and higher minimum chair height...and the back tilt has 3 settings.. bolt upright .. lying way back and way way back... the latter 2 positions totally non functional for a working environment... now my feet are falling asleep and my back is a mess.. MAKE YOUR SALES PERSON TELL YOU ABOUT ALL OF YOR PROSPECTIVE CHAIR’S DIMENSIONS... I was misled .. there is even confusion online about it

The current CEO's 2018 appointment has nothing to do with the remastered version since the design work started way before his tenure.

Did you have a C before. Most chairs purchased in bulk for offices are Bs. I have one A and one B and they definitely sit differently. Never sat in a C before.

Hi Cindy - I work for Herman Miller and I am so sorry to hear about your disappointment with your chair. Could you please email me separately so we can assist you with getting you the right chair? My email is lnewell@dwr.com. Thanks

What a weird thread.

Someone creates an account on a Mac forum to complain about something completely unrelated to Apple.

But, well, I've seen that happen before.

However, THEN someone from the company (I think? Wouldn't a HM employee have a HM email address and not one from Design Within Reach? I don't know...) also creates an account to respond to the initial person who should have just gone straight to the company in the first place...or at least a chair related forum.

Weird.

But I do love my Aeron! :)

It's in the "Community Discussion" subforum.

Herman Miller is the parent company of Design Within Reach.

My 2010 Aeron is still great.

Well, yes, it is in the right subforum. But it is always interesting to me when people join forums *for the express purpose* of talking about something unrelated.

I wasn't aware that HM owned DWR. Thanks.

What made you choose the Aeron, out of curiosity? I think even in 2010 there were chairs that were supposedly "better" by that point. Did it just fit the best? I picked one up as much for its iconic status–I love chairs–as its functionality.

I asked a few friends. The only ones that said they liked their chairs had Aerons.

Just look at the subtitle of the Community Discussion main page: "general chit-chat and current events"

This IS the place for discussion about topics not specifically covered in the subforums.

And MacRumors is most definitely not the first BB to have a general discussion forum. Even going back to the Usenet era there have been general discussion groups.

Even Reddit has the catch-all AskReddit subreddit.

That was surprising. I have the HM Embody, it’s not bad.

Fun fact: Herman Miller introduced the office cubicle to the world.

As I mentioned before, I understand that this is the correct subforum for the post. And if the OP weren't a newbie whose only post is about chairs, I wouldn't think twice about it. I just think MR in general is a weird place to create an account to post about it. It's like going to a car forum and signing up to figure out which immersion blender I should get.

Nah, I've seen weirder stuff on the Internet.

I'd say that discussion (or griping) about task chairs isn't completely irrelevant for a general personal computing forum regardless of the operating system the computer is running.

Many Mac households also have a Windows computer under the same roof (typically a work notebook PC).

That's great. I don't see anyone named D.T. participating in this conversation.

But if you think you have a sympathetic imaginary friend here, that's fine. However THAT is weird.

:p

I wonder if the armrests on the remastered Aeron stay firmly in place? Mine on the older model are always sliding downwards no matter how much I try to tighten the adjustment wheel.

My Aeron story - I picked one up, and loved it, but then the gas cylinder broke after about 6 years... so I had it sitting in the garage for a few more years... Then realized it was repairable AND that Herman Miller said the chair was still under warranty (I'm not sure how long the warranty lasts these days). Shipped it to HM for repairs, and boom - good as new. The Aeron is built to last...

They come with a 12-year warranty!

D.T. gave ToBeFirst's post a like. So perhaps not imaginary. :)

What is curious is that I'm posting on a site about Macs, in a thread about chairs, about imaginary friends!

I gotta get out more ...
