The second-generation HomePod is set to be released on Friday, February 3, which is the day that pre-orders will be delivered and when the speakers will be available for purchase in retail stores. One lucky MacRumors reader received his HomePod days early, with the device delivered today.

The HomePod in question was ordered from Best Buy and was mistakenly delivered early by the Canada Post.

Apple's second-generation HomePod is almost identical to the now-discontinued original HomePod, coming in at just a bit shorter. The major external design difference is the revamped display, which is edge-to-edge, larger, and improves the overall look of the speaker.

The internal components have also been changed with Apple tweaking the number of tweeters and microphones, but reviewers have found that the speaker largely sounds the same as the original model. As with the first HomePod, the new version comes in two colors, white and a new midnight shade.

Apple is selling the HomePod for $299, and it can be purchased from the Apple website. It will be in stores on Friday.

Early? No, I’d easier believe that someone who has an established penchant to post publicly would have been sent one early to take a photo and generate a headline.

Call me jaded 🤪
They should have picked me for that. Mine is still preparing to ship. I might consider moving to Canada now. 😒

The plot thickens: I see a Calendar icon on the Mac Display screen but can't read the number/date. Dare you to try! Just kidding, haha!

I swear this happens every single time conveniently 2 days before the official release of a new Apple product. Seems almost like on purpose for some last minute buzz

Maybe Apple wanted to steal Samsung Galaxy Event Thunder. They were only late a couple of hours or so.

This is lucky? It wasn't the post office shipping it early, it was apple that made the mistake and shipped it early. If they made that mistake, there's no telling what other mistakes they made.

haha... It's my thread. I'm definitely no one of importance. Just some dude who got his HomePod early lol.

How can you tell it's not the old one :p
Different box ;) I just searched eBay for the OG HomePod, the box looks much different than this one.

Weirdest Apple Release I can remember. Prior product disconetinued or so we thought due to lack of sales, only for them to release it again with no major changes, same price. What do they think will be different this time?

I'd love to have the desire to want one of these, but even with a 100% Apple eco system, I've been much happier with Alexa for home assistant devices and even automation.

I reckon the OG was pulled as they noticed an increase in the amount of units failing with the 'fart' noise that's reported.

What better way than stopping all production, giving it a bit of time & then re-introducing an almost identical model but with changes made.

This way any old models that die can be swept aside as not a model that's still in retail (albeit it is).

If it's the one between messaging and clock, it's too blurry when I SS and open in photos and zoom. Looks like it's maybe 1:45 and they need to clear their emails

Maybe the original Homepod was just released too early and should have come after the mini. The iPad was developed before the iPhone but was released a couple of years later.

Actually the original would be around $400 now with inflation. So this one is $100 cheaper, lol.

Still not buying it.

Cool! I missed that line about a Macrumors member :)

Enjoy!

I still think it was on purpose, but good on you ;)
