Glad you can take out the power cable, so if you really wanted a white HomePod on a black bench top then you could technically get a black power cable for it so it blends in a bit better.

"Substantially reduced components" seems to be a little ignorant of how this wound influence sound. If you're alluding to the change from 7 to 5 tweeters, for example, I've seen speakers costing >$100k built with only one tweeter. The change to a less powerful chip is unlikely to make much change in sound quality. Maybe you could elaborate on what you mean by substantially reduced components.
How is a processor based on the A13 less powerful than the A8?

Weirdest Apple Release I can remember. Prior product disconetinued or so we thought due to lack of sales, only for them to release it again with no major changes, same price. What do they think will be different this time?

I'd love to have the desire to want one of these, but even with a 100% Apple eco system, I've been much happier with Alexa for home assistant devices and even automation.

Tons of stuff have changed. People seem to forget how bad the situation was in 2018. You couldn’t even hook them up as a stereo pair or to your ATV, no personal Siri requests, no support for third party music services, no multiple timers, no Intercom, etc

Lucky?

You call a package coming early, lucky?

I'd say they should play the lottery... but they've already won!

🤣

Apple is too late to the game. I've already got 4 Alexas around the house that I wish sounded as good as the Big Pod, but otherwise do everything else better.
I feel the same. The house is kitted out with Sonos, Alexa does the job and with different Sonos speakers for each room to suit each use case (Arc and Sub in main room, Beam in smaller room, One’s in bedroom and Move in kitchen/garden). The move is also great for a week away on a road trip using bluetooth.

I have Apple devices in most other categories but I won’t be moving over for this. Maybe if it came along 10 years ago.

While it wouldn’t surprise me if removing two tweeters is cost cutting, there’s also a very good chance the less is more when it comes to sound quality in speakers. Potentially 7 tweeters added more muddyness to the sound or effected how the room finding tech works.

As stated before, most extremely good hifi speakers and floor standers have a lot less than 5 !

Cool, can't wait to pick up another when they're on sale for 30% off.

Yeah but most speakers aren't omnidirectional like Homepods. That's why.

Only with the Apple reality distortion field could a speaker with substantially reduced components sound “largely the same” as the prior model. Same reason the AirPods Max don’t support true lossless playback: People can’t tell the difference anyway, it’s a myth, Apple makes it so therefore it’s already perfect and stop asking questions.

Finally a review that makes a serious comparison with high quality mics and a blind test. Nobody is surprised that the new one sounds worse than the old one, as it’s clearly a cheapened version to increase apple’s profit.

exactly, but that's why I suggested that *maybe* 5 omnidirectional tweeters is actually a clearer song to 7.

Probably not, it's probably still cost cutting but it would be nice for someone to professionally test this theory

I would love to get a couple more for my lounge but not at EU prices.

299USD = 272EUR

Actual price in Europe: 350EUR

29% mark up.

Get stuffed Cook! You even upped the HomePod Mini price 10% to 110eur with a 22% mark up on US prices.

Yeah, $299 no tax included, which is different across US, example tax in NY $26,54 so would be $325,54. Tax in EU 59€ so… that’s is that reason why
