The iMac can sit pretty far back on your desk, as nothing really sticks out of the back. You'll probably be fine.

It’s more than enough. My desk is 30” deep and I don’t get close to using the full depth. I could probably go a bit thinner than 27” if I wanted to, and still have room.

Cheers for the responses. Appreciated.

I really thought the desk could be too small. It’s by a window so the screen is likely to block the view, but guess I can turn the iMac at an angle!

In terms of buying second hand - any tips or additional traps to be aware of?

I have seen them but desk is infront of a big window and a wall mount wouldn’t really help.

Check the serial number, and make sure it's as manufactured and still qualifies for AppleCare (whether you get that or not is your choice). But the warranty should cover you in the short term.

In addition to checking for obvious physical damage, I suggest taking a sniff on any air vents. A burned smell is not good.

Take a couple of appropriate cables and plug them in and see if they work (USB A and C, for example). Play something off YouTube to see if the sound works.

Thanks. I’ve run the check with the serial number. Also says I can add Apple Care for £159.

Yep. Sure I will and hopefully picking up tomorrow!

Primary use is for an online Masters Degree and so much of my time will be at home, hence the iMac choice.

Quick question, say I am writing a thesis on the iMac and then away with work for a few days, how would an iPad fair in terms of using that to connect to the iMac to continue working - mainly word, blackboard, accessing journals, etc...?

My desk is 20" and there's enough room for the 27" 2017 iMac, Magic Keyboard 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 (trackpad next to keyboard). Not cramped at all.

I have a 27" imac on a worktop that is 53cm deep and its great. In fact, because the screen quality is so good, it the same as having a 32" on my older, deeper worktop.

I have a massive desk and had to move the iMac to about 40cm from the front of the desk because when it's far back I get back and neck pain. So I think the smaller the desk the better. Probably.

But not the current estimated loading time for the o/s!!
