New iMac - downgrade? originally Mavericks?

Hi guys, just ordered an iMac, and though my store still had stock with 10.9 on them my BTO has 10.10. Major problems for my work programs (I have a laptop with 10.9 worst case).

My question - since this current iMac build was first compatible with/shipped with Mavericks does that mean a system downgrade from Yosemite to Mavericks is possible?

I've read as much as I can on the internet...not sure if the Time Machine backup way or Mavericks installer or Command+R way will work, just needed some guidance.
