Hi, Ordered a new 27'' 3 TB iMac,moving from a Mac Pro with 22 TB internal storage and El Capitian. My use is simple web browsing, music, video(Apple TV)and photo storage. My main issue is huge amounts of duplicate files I'd rather not have on the new machine, plus any ideas for media storage-currently have an insane number of external drives, including two 4 bay USB3 housings.

Also any must have software you love that I should consider.

I really appreciate any thoughts on setting up the new machine and keeping it organized.

    Thanks so much!

There are a ton of duplicate file finder apps out there. Gemini use to be a good one -- not sure if it still exists or not.

I just went though a similar task trying to thin out files for a new machine. Most of the storage hogging my drives was old FCPX files. You don't really say what kind of files you have 22TB is obviously pretty massive. If you have seasons and seasons of TV shows then maybe assess if you really still want those. I tossed out a bunch of old movies I know I'll never watch again and don't want to spend $ on backing up.

You could also just start from scratch and use your existing drives as "archive" and only xfer what you absolutely need to the new machine. Put the rest in storage containers, label, and stick them in a drawer.

Personally I have a 1TB boot drive with just apps, docs, and the OS. I have a separate drive with photos and home videos (4TB) and 2TB drive for music. Then 8TB TM drive. I also backup the boot drive to dropbox.
