New iMac - Help Watch TV ?

Hi All

We recently purchased an iMac and we would like to watch TV on it. We have a Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300HDC Cable box from Comcast and have connected that to the iMac via a firewire cable.

We installed the FirewireSDK25 and the AVCBrowser and the software is detecting the cable box. However when the VLC is launched we are unable to see any TV.

I have spent a lot of time Googling and have tried iRecord, AVCVidCaps, VirtualDVHS etc. but no luck.

I know there are applications like EyeTV etc but was hoping to find freeware if possible.

Any help or pointers are greatly appreciated.
