(1) The keyboard layout makes no sense... read past posts for explaination
(2) The keyboard is inconsistent with Apple design trends, and standard/proven keyboard ergonomics... read past posts for explanation

Is there a possibility there are a few of these keyboards with keys in different positions, which are being tested to determine which works best?

In fact, it may be easier to get hold of a rejected keyboard layout in order to photograph it.

For what it's worth, here's my take on it:

http://normalkid.com/2007/07/28/final-verdict-keyboard-fake-ipod-ui-real/

with a history of Apple's legal involvement in leaks.

>Apple Legal never asked Asteroid information to be pulled

Yeah, except Thinksecret's "Nick" is getting his balls sued off by Apple trying to find his source.

They didn't ask for it to be pulled, but they're going after him personally trying to stop future rumors (the damage from the asteroid leak already been done).

That makes sense. I don't know if you are in favor of the thing being real or fake but that is the first logical reason anyone on this thread (I have been reading since post #8) has given for why the keyboard layout may have been changed.

You my friend are one the few... and the proud posters that actually thinks about things and adds to the conversation, rather than taking things at face value.

Hey, I've been saying it was a prototype myself... :p

There are a number of reasons I think this is going to be the new iMac keyboard. First of all, an aluminum keyboard would obviously go nicely with an aluminum iMac. That one is a bit obvious, but I think some of the slightly less obvious information on the back of the keyboard really seals the deal for me. The build is listed as "DVT2 Al-1," which would signify the second revision of a developer prototype, and is consistent with internal naming/numbering. The components listed also seem to match up: Molex sells thing USB connectors, and Jin-Haw is one of two suppliers Apple uses for USB cables.

More reasons to believe it is true.

no one on that side of the fench has yet to offer and answers to the two main questions as to why this is certainly a fake/prototype never to see the light of day.

Maybe its just a prototype in which Apple tried one of many possible new layouts.

I'm sure 90% of users will like it. Or maybe it's because it's a prototype!

(3) The keyboard if just FUGLY
Your opinion!

Digital Skunk, it appears that you only say it's fake in the hope that if you say it enough times it will magically become a fake. Remember that your opinion is just your opinion, rather than absolute undeniable truth. Can you not accept that this keyboard is possibly just a prototype in which Apple tried a new Function key layout?

And lets not forget, we are only talking about a keyboard here! No need for aggression. :) (Not directed at anyone in particular.)

You gotta be more definite.

Been there... you're a little late.

You haven't read the posts. And you already said it was a prototype but just like the others that said it that broad answer doesn't justify why the artist would jumble the keys around. A prototype could have a key layout that made sense and "it's a prototype" isn't an excuse for terrible design.

Your opinion!

It was a joke... hence why it was small and why I said "two" and not three. You have to read the posts.

I am not even going to touch this one, you are reading too far into the posts and making assumptions based on your own feelings. Why don't you quote everyone else that says it's fake and tell them how you feel. Either way you slice it... you still haven't brought any facts either... while the two reasons I gave (not the third that was obviously a joke) were bold facts that only one poster has been able to shed some light on. Stop repeating other posters and read the thread... if you don't want to read it fine, but don't go around throwing your assumptions at people... PLEASE.

This thread has been very civil so far, please don't bring it down.

Learn to spell...

Hey Digital Skunk,

If you're going to keep calling everyone an idiot or a moron, please spell-check your posts first. It doesn't help your arguments.

Cheers...

Dude... I am not making an argument and what does my spelling have to do with someone's brash statements and poor conversation skills?

When did I ever .... "Keep calling everyone and idiot or moron" huh?

What's your problem?

I read your post wrong--you called the fictional person who created the mock-up a moron and an idiot. My bad.

But, back to a previous post -- that "M" is the same M that's on my Macbook keyboard--which in no way validates the authenticity of the images, nor discounts them either.

I agree with you on the M part. I took a look at the MacBook keyboard and saw that it was an upside-down "W" as well.

p.s. Didn't mean to sound harsh in my last post to you... I don't want to start flaming each other over a prototype/mockup/imaginary/possible/rumored product from apple that may never see the light.

Hey, Digital Skunk, we all know what you think now. Don't keep this up until August 7th. It's only a week away. C'mon. You've posted in this thread like 50 times.

You seem surprised that I haven't read all 600 posts about a keyboard. :p
And to be honest, after rereading my last post, it does sound a bit more hostile and less like a joke than I meant it to be, sorry. But i still think it is a prototype.

That's alright. When I wrote my post I got a little hostile at the end then I though... hey, he didn't mean all that stuff. :)

I'm just trying to make it to Mac Rumors Demi God... I don't know how many posts you need for that though.

You leave off Digital Skunk! He's my new best friend :D:D:D

Interesting - my bro had a 17" iMac refurb in his basket but didnt checout

He had a phone call from apple saying they were coming off the site tonight so should place his order now.

The keyboard strikes me more as a 3rd party keyboard, for a few reasons:

1. The lack of an "Apple" key. It'd be nice, but it's not Apple, lol.

2. The location of the buttons o_O

Yes, on laptop keyboards, F1 and F2 are also brightness control, but on the desktop keyboards this has always been F14/15.

Holy cow!

That's pretty interesting. That's the first thing I've heard that actually makes me think they might roll out an iMac. Or are you just having us on??

I was personally hoping that the new iMac design would be black and aluminium like the iPhone, rather than white and aluminium... this is, of course, assuming that a) this keyboard has anything to do with the new iMac at all, b) that it's the final appearance, c) that it's even genuine ;)

Keyboard looks fine to me though. I've always liked the softer typing action you get on laptop-style keys anyway. Wonder when the bluetooth version's due?
