With reports of the iMac freezing issues continuing to flow and with Apple acknowledging the problem, do you think it's wise to upgrade new iMacs to Leopard (as oppose to keeping 10.4 and not downloading the 1.1 GFX update)?

Is it happening to most new iMacs, or just a select few? If I installed Leopard and had major freezing problems, could I go back to 10.4 with my system discs?

I read somewhere that the problem derived from hardware issues, is it defiantly driver based, can Apple fix it without replacing anything?

Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere, I've had a look but can't find answers to all of my questions...

Leopard contains the v1.1 update. This issue is currently only happening to 5% of the iMacs. It is without doubt a hardware issue and is unlikely to be fixable by Apple by software (seeing 1.2/1.3 did nothing).

My advice is upgrade to Leopard, and if you experience the Screen Freeze, then take your iMac back for a replacement immediately. There's no point rolling back (you can) and wait for a fix because it most likely can't be fixed by hardware and if you get a new one there's a 95% chance it's not a Freezer. If they don't replace it they'll change the Graphics Card (does the trick as well).

I upgraded, but never had issues before hand. Seems snappier, so I'd say - what the hell! ;)

Mine wasn't a freezer in Tiger, so I was eager to upgrade. But I'm not a fan of upgrading OS's either, so I backed everything up and did an erase/install. I also ran the 1.3 firmware upgrade. No problems thus far. Everything went very smooth, and I'm really happy. :)

No freezing problems here (although today's software update should fix the ones that have). Brand new 20" iMac on which I installed Leopard a couple of days ago. Works beautifully.

I just received my iMac and installed Leopard as soon as it booted up. I haven't had a single problem and have been amazed with the OS. A friend of mine is a graphic designer and did the upgrade on her older Mac Pro and the only problem that she had is that the install changed her email settings so she couldn't send mail. A quick look in Preferences changed that, and she loves it over Tiger.

I have two new 24 inch iMacs (2.8, 4gigs of ram) both running Leopard. One has the 1.3 update and the other doesnt (havent got around to updating it yet) and havent had any issues since I first started the machine up. I originally had Tiger and upgraded to Leopard a few days ago. No glitches or issues at all, I am really happy with Leopard and the new iMac.

Dont be hesitant, just do it!

My iMac has been running flawlessly since it arrived on Sept. 19. Upgrade to Leopard was very easy and well worth it.
