Last, the report said the next high-end Mac mini "won't be so mini anymore," suggesting that the most expensive model might have a larger or taller design.

The xMac lives! Well, probably not. But a "mini" with a PCI slot would be amazing.

can someone who knows a little better facts...if i buy a next gen imac with vega gpu, that has tb3, can i use a eGPU and put in there an 1070 or 1080 nvidia gpu and use it as it is? or i have to disable the vega gpu ? and how?

Coupled with nVidia support for eGPUs, this is an exciting time.

I hope they go Ultrawide. That would be a great way to add more room for handling fans and heat.

Neither of your statements is wrong, but they are nonetheless contradictory. The thin desktop is actually worse for carrying around. Have you carried a 27" iMac? Thing practically severs your fingers off. It's so thin it's sharp, and however light it may think it is, it's still hefty enough to press those sharp edges into your hands/fingers to the point of pain. I've carried around quite a lot of desktop computers both large and small, heavy and light, and the iMac is far and away the worst one to move.
Disagree. I don't move iMacs much but we have several old form factors and several new. The new ones aren't that ergonomic but they are so much lighter. That means that people don't slam them down on the desk when they move them around. The old ones are slabs of metal but just as delicate inside. People treat them like towers which is a mistake. And of course the newer ones look so much better. That kind of design actually affects the way people work with and treat those that have the sleeker Macs. It's kind of like the fan noise. You can slowly crank up the fan noise and get used to anything but when you directly compare it to its sleek and quiet counterpart, the entire tone of the room changes.

They use the same socket, so you're stuck with 16 lanes plus whatever the southbridge gives you.

you're right. at least the Xeon series mentioned by Pike R. Alpha only feature PCIe 16 lanes. the Xeon in my Mac Pro 2013 has 40 lanes though... so the only advantage would be support for ECC memory..?

All you guys that are making stuff up regarding heat. Do you even know what you are talking about? Like, do you even have a clue at all? The Intel Xeon E3 line-up of CPU's are just better binned Intel Core i series of CPU's that have gone through additional verification and have a few added features like the support for ECC memory.

There is absolutely no reason you should think these will have added heat exhaustion compared to their Intel Core counterparts. My Intel Xeon E3-1275v3 in my Hyper-V Server is the exact same chip as the Intel Core i7-4770K. The only difference is the extra verification from Intel, the better binning and the fact that it supports ECC memory.

Take a look at Intel's own specification for the chips;

https://ark.intel.com/products/75464/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1275-v3-8M-Cache-3_50-GHz
http://ark.intel.com/products/75123/Intel-Core-i7-4770K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

They are the exact same, they share the same TDP and everything. The same goes for the entire Intel Xeon E3 line-up compared to SKU's from Intel's mainstream line-up. These won't get any hotter compared to the equivalent Intel Core i5 and i7.

Stop using god damn AMD graphics chips. They're ****
They only lack in the top range which this iMac would never have anyway. Their mid range cards are solid performers and cost effective. That being said, if this is released in October, it would probably have a Vega card rather than a Polaris card and no one can reliably speculate as to the performance of those. Honestly, Apple should consider offering some AMD CPU options as they are phenomenal performers for day to day workloads and multi tasking.

With news of a new expandable Mac Pro, Pro iMac, improved Mini, and NVidia Mac compatible high-end graphics, this is the first time I've been excited by Mac rumors in ages! They might actually make a Mac I'd want to buy again!

so you think the xeon cpu will have nothing better than the i7 config?

Apple were head and shoulders above everyone a few years ago. They are not now. They might be again if these rumours work out positively (i.e. not just happen, but happen in the right way, no one step forward and one step back).

Too little too late. Won't fix the issue of all the professional software companies that have abandoned MacOS such as ANSYS, OrCAD, Cadence, SolidWorks, CATiA, etc.

Way too late and still not what pros want (i.e. it's a non-upgradable all-in-one). Sorry Apple but lots of former pro Apple users moved on years ago. Pros use Windows now and have for years.

I think AMD is fine for what it is, but lets not Kid ourselves. APPLE makes expensive top of the line products, NVIDIA and INTEL are the only components that make sense for TOP OF THE LINE hardware..

Top of the line hardware is whatever makes your workflow run the best. Could care less if it has an Nvidia or intel logo on it (or even Apple)
