I can almost assure you that the corners of these films will catch a ton of dirt and lint. Then eventually, it will start to peel back because of it.

Then I'll take advantage of the Lifetime warranty...

How can you "assure" that? Are you talking about standard protective films & screen protectors or this product specifically? They are not even in the same league as this military-grade shield, although I can see how those who haven't used or felt it can make that mistake. The corners do not curl up on this product. It is amazing but they stay in place. you can't even feel the ridge once applied. The only issue is as I said, I have a few millimeters hanging over at the thumb scoop portion and at part of the hinge area. It is not sticky, but you can feel the slight excess if you look for it and run your fingers along the sharp edges of the machine. That, along with the micro-bubbles, is why I might have the top piece re-done. Also, remember, if that ever did happen you can get a replacement free, or if worse comes to worse, remove it if you feel necessary. That is not a concern whatsoever for me.

It's just a matter of which feel you prefer weighed against the protection it provides. If you like the look of a metallic paint finish on a new (silver) car you will like the look of this shield, plus benefit from the extra protection and a little extra grip. If you really want to feel the cold metal which is its trademark, don't want any shine, and don't mind a few scratches, I wouldn't apply it.

I just put a shield on my unibody macbook, and so far it's ok. I took a few hours to put it on, but i spent so much time taking it off and putting it back down that I stretched it out and so it has a few over hanging lips and still has bubbles. I might take it off eventually and try again after reading all the tips, but I had to try it after the scratch I got on the bottom. :( I did cry a little inside when I saw it. I agree that I like the aluminum feel and look much much better, but I hate scratches more, and as a college student, they are bound to happen.

That's good work. I didn't spend as much time on mine, but mine still makes me happy.

For everybody else: the Invisible Shield isn't for everyone, but it makes sense for some of us (Best Skins isn't available for the 17", btw). While I am careful with my MBP, it doesn't mean that other people's idiocy can't happen. In addition, my computer without the skin was very slippery in my hands. So much so, that I was concerned about it slipping out of my hands. The skin is also useful when going through airport security. Those bins aren't very clean and you don't know what kind of scratches the grime in there could leave.

wrong. i had mine on my "old" MBP for exactly 13 months before applecare had it replaced with a unibody MBP. it went through the deserts of kuwait and the grime of NYC/newark/jersey city, and the beauty of the rest of NJ.

was still flawless a year later, and i had put it on myself. why do people hate these things so much? they are pretty fantastic. really doesn't change the look of the MBP at all until you get close, and offers fantastic scratch protection for a poor college student who throws his laptop around.

i don't see it as being overly cautious... i see it as insurance to allow yourself to be more easygoing with the computer in the future.
