Hey, you can try to redesign MacRumors' icons too!:D

I think they 'used' a logo I submitted years ago when there was talk of a redesign. I submitted a logo with the exact same type, spacing and colours except the R was infact a ?

Years later the current MacRumors logo popped up. I can't confirm they er... 'borrowed' my idea but I'm not fussed. I didnt change the icon however as my submission was a logotype and as such didn't warrant a symbol.

Camera Icon...hmmmm

seeing as how everyone is up in arms about the new icons, the camera icon, being one of the main ones in question. I just wanted to point out that actually most sites are using an icon of an actual old time camera, so the adoption in iOS actually makes sense and is intuitive...

You make a good point but the camera in iOS7 is much more detailed than those apps. Also, just because they're all doing it doesn't mean it a good idea on an OS level. Not saying you're wrong though, just something to add to the conversation. Those apps will be changing lots when iOS 7 is released.

Semantics...

that was actually in reference to a editorial on gizmodo about the icons where:

"All of that magic has been replaced by an ugly camera icon. This new icon is like showing a floppy disk for “Save”. Instead of seeing a representation of the actual hardware that would be doing your bidding, now we’re left with a old-timey camera."

fyi

And that analysis is spot on. Big time mistakes in iOS 7 design choices. Seems like basic knowledge of design is ignored - and that is everywhere in the OS except for the clock and calendar icon. These are at least consistent with the rest of the OS.

Not to be rude, but, whenever I see some new icons thread, I give more credit to Apple with the new icons, of course, there are couple that could be better but overall Apple did a good job.

I held an iPhone running iOS6 yesterday and it looked outdated, like years old, that's when I knew Apple is on the right path.

After 5 years of being here, I only just realized that the Macrumors icon is supposed to have a question mark on it.

And it was because of this post.

Thank you. :apple:

I didn't know that before I posted that comment either!

I think there are 384,576 threads about the iOS 7 icons.

Couldn't this possibly have been posted on one of them...instead of opening ANOTHER iOS 7 thread?

OH NO, NOT ANOTHER THREAD. THE WORLDS GOING TO ****ING END IF WE GET ANOTHER THREAD. What exactly is the problem with MOAR threads? Is there something I'm missing here? I don't see a problem.

Because every other topic is about the icons, and they're not even new opinions they're just recycled from other posters, the ones that are really obvious the mods merge them into other topics.

Yeah, I get that, but I don't get why people can't just skip over the multiple threads about icons... Especially when the title gives it away. There's always one ******* bitching about someone opening up another thread as if the internet is going to run out of threads. Does it honestly annoy people that much? I'll never understand it.

We want to discuss iOS 7's functionality, not its looks. Would you be annoyed if someone talked about the same thing all day every day?

I guess they are discussed so much because they are just as important to many people.

While some just don't care, others want their iPhone to look really good. The white clean design reflects quality and elegance while the icons are percieved as "cartoony" and "childish". I'm not surprised that this mismatch causes a lot of discussion.

What happens to the icons with current apps? Do they get flattened or are they still in the current style on iOS 7?

The apps control the icons, so whatever they are now, or will be in a future update, that's what they'll be. The OS doesn't really put any of its own interpretation onto the icon, at least not any more than before.
