"The world’s most advanced mobile OS." That can be disabled simply by receiving a text message.

Interesting.

If you type the following, it also crashes the Messages app:

what idiot discovered this?

How in the world would this be even possible? Seriously, someone explain please...

"we found out what it is. it is due to how the banner notifications process the Unicode text. The banner briefly attempts to present the incoming text and then "gives up" thus the crash"

A bug that crashes some process. Things like that have been around since computing devices have been around decades and decades back.

A crash is not disabling something. Is something like a bug really that new or a stange of a concept for some?

This does nothing to my phone. Dunno if being jailbroken has anything to do with it.

So, turning off message previews in notifications will avoid the crash. Good to know.

I can't seem to replicate this on anybody's phone... haha!

Any help? (Does it matter what build of iOS they are on?)

What was supposed to be a funny prank from me to my younger sister, resulted in a big family argument and my dad calling me an a--hole.

Yep, because crashing someones phone (and the app they probably use most) is SUCH a great joke!

Sent it to 4 different iPhones including one of our own and it didn't do jack. received the message, nothing happens. Even when selected focus on a different senders message thread, they would receive the incoming isis threat message and then nothing would happen.

doesn't seem to affect all iPhones. These 4 were running iOS 8.3, however.

They no longer have a Scott Forstall to throw under the bus so who's it gonna be during tomorrow's emergency meeting? I want to see if someone can crash tim cook and Sir Jony's iPhones - so they can feel how bad this problem is.

Really MR. You're really going to just openly tell us the text message.
Tonight is going to be fun.

this deserves mucho media attention and YES, show the exploit because it's exactly this easy (copying and pasting and sending) to crash iPhones.

This shouldn't be swept under the rug...

don't hate the messenger! Direct your rage towards: :apple:
iPhones are suppose to be more protected than condoms!

It's not really a "security" issue ... it's just a bizarre bug that nobody in their right mind would ever find themselves running into normally.

This probably had to be retaliation by Google after that segment on hacking Google phones was on today on nightly news.

Doesn't seem to crash my iPhone? Is it because I have my banners set to not show the incoming text and just display "iMessage" or "Text Message" ?
