Well, the feature itself is very nice but it's too bad most of my friends don't use an iPhone.
And even less use MobileMe -> if it won't be a free service like "Find my iPhone".
Also I sincerely hope that I have to confirm it before someone can find me.
Nothing more bothersome than a stalker.

So the question on my mind: Is this the only new feature of MobileMe in 2011?
I hope there is much more in store given the reply from S.Jobs about the service and it's progression this year.

We don't know.

If you want a definitive answer, get a job at Apple Inc.

That said, my guess is the answer is "no." Apple is finishing up construction on a massive IT facility in the Carolinas. It is highly unlikely that they would need such a facility simply for 'Find My Friends' functionality. There are probably other plans for such an operation.

Sure, more discrimination. What if you don't have any friends?

With this new feature integrated into the new iStalk App, making new friends is easy!

Google canned this because they found during tests that most users were in locations that GPS doesn't work (eg, basements). Blackberry has had this feature all along, they just didn't tell people (Find my employees). Meanwhile, Nokia never had to worry about it - all the N8 and N900 users are still at home busy trying to figure out how to get out of vi with their on screen keyboard. :D

Being an Android user myself, I can happily attest to the fact my social life sucks and I could never see myself actually using an app like this ;) XD

I use latitude when on trips to let my girlfriend and family know were i am, i turn it on at the start of the trip and turn it off at the end when i arrive at my destination.

its important that it restricts who gets to see were you are, i think latitude is a good working example of a service like this, cant see what theyll had to make it stick out from latitude or other similar programs , but unless its free im not touching it :p

find_my_friend=ping=fail

More like FaceTime. 1st you think its awesome. Then you use it 2 or 3 times its cool. Then you tend not to use it anymore at all.

Apple recently is just too much a feature whore while lacking a (timely) strategy.

Taking FaceTime as an example. Where is a Windows Client ? Why is the Mac Client still beta ? Didn't want they make it an open standard ? Where is it?
It's still cool but only to use is with my 2-4 iPhone friends ? Thats why i use Skype now.

Fiend my Friends will be the same. It's cool but iPhone-only it will not be much more then a gimmick. Make it open to everyone then it'll be a killer.

You'll Get To Choose!!

Jeepers. Seems a lot of people think this will be some kind of a system feature that has no on or off switch. It will most certainly be something that you opt in for, and also specify exactly who gets to know where you are. If you think it's creepy, just don't turn it on. It's that simple.

All my family and a few others use Latitude, and at first I thought it was very useful. But now I'm not so sure because I can't trust it. It gives me positions all over the place at times, but FindMyPhone always shows an accurate location when Latitude is crazy. (Like, what's my wife doing in the middle of a lake in December???) I just hope that Apple's version of Latitude will be as reliable as FMP.

FMF a big thing?

Good morning, Steve.
You really think Find My Friends is a big thing?
Since when is catching up to Loopt a big thing?
Oh, and I guess because Apple just permitted Google on the iPhone, it doesn't matter that Latitude has had this feature for 3 years.
If Apple wants to enter the big leagues in messaging and making new friends, come talk to us.
We already lead the market with MeetMe(TM), and will soon be launching X-platform inter-operability, buddy group chat, and something really big, Point-and-Chat(TM).
If Apple wants to get in the driver's seat on pushing the envelope on messaging, every iPhone should come with PoKos.
Your call.
Have a great day.

For finding kids and your cheating future ex this might be perfect. Others finding me - I like my privacy . So Steve, start rolling in those big MobileMe features since this is not one of them. What about going back to basics... Fast connections to iDisk and lots more space. Way better then services like this... and I thought I could just call the person I'm trying to find instead of spying on the net.

I guess there is a strong linkt between "Find my Iphone" becoming free and "Find my Friends" becoming available. Of course, there is some time in between to make the link less obvious but I wouldn't be surprised if the software to do it is the same.

I could see uses for such a service (though bluntly Google has better access to their map data than Apple does, so it's hard to see how this will work better than Latitude), but the main problem is that I simply don't trust Apple to make the privacy settings worthwhile given what a catastrophe Ping was (so by signing up I have to retrospectively attach my publically accessible real name to every iTunes and App Store review I've ever written? Erm, no, Steve).

Exactly! They really need to work on improving the services they offer now. Compare mobile me to google apps. Mobile Me is pretty and everything, but it's slow as hell and has half the features.

Great, glad they found this option! Now we'll have enough time to work on disabling this. I don't need anyone knowing my exact location every moment of the day. :)

Big leagues? That's hilarious.

Oh sure... The public has really caught on to Pokos.

It's so popular, not a single user has found the time to review it, despite having launched almost a month ago. Welcome to the big leagues.

Microsoft is adding "Find me a friend" to Windows7 mobile. :D

Anyway... sounds like a cool feature. Wish I had it in the past for tradeshows to find co-workers. ;)

Funny how Apple can add a simple feature that could be very useful and so many people have to chime in with negative comments.

Ugh!
