A camera on an Ipad is probably the last thing I care about, I would be happy if they took it off completely and used that space for something else. That said if they do include one then it seems sensible to add a flash too.

Good thing it doesn't have a flash

We'd probably be seeing this more often if it did...

It is a bit strange that Apple spent so much time during the keynote talking about how everyone is using the iPad as a camera and how they're taking it seriously now and then they don't include a flash. For the record I think iPad photography is ridiculous, but some of the other uses like that coaching app are really cool.

I think hardware-wise next year we'll see a Retina HD display (@3X), true tone flash, and a less significant speed bump—except for the GPU.

It's always worked for me with short video clips. Shot on iPhone, appeared on iPad.

Thanks for letting me know that something is not working right, no movie transfer.

Like I said, Photo stream is a convince, but should not be replacement for proper equipment, like LED flash on the primary documentation device.

At this point I really think iPad must have it

Dear OP,
There are these little devices called cameras. They're used for taking pictures. They even have a flash on them. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Why bother using an inferior camera when you can use a superior camera? Using the best possible camera isn't a dumb idea...

Because it's in your hands and your phone isn't and really want to take this picture before the object disappears or whatever ?

Why ? If I'm already holding my iPad and need to take a quick pic the iPad Air 2 camera is very good for what it is

I have a Samsung Galaxy tab pro 8.4. Let me tell you the flash on the back comes in handy but the number of times I needed to use it was once out of thousands of pictures. It would be nice to have it but honestly it isn't even needed on my iPhone. But of course it all depends on the photographer.

But I don't see this as deal breaker. There are so many power features hardware wise that makes this air 2 such a winner a stupid flash on the back is not going to make me unhappy!

And no person likes a stupid flash in their face when taking pictures

I felt cheated when the 1st gen iPad didn't have the camera when the iPad 2 came out. Seems to me like Apple is being cheap by not including a flash with the iPad cameras now and the space they have to work with is much larger than the iPhones. Even if the flash never gets used as a camera flash it may come in handy in the flashlight mode, should power ever go out or something.

I'm rather sure the next iPad will lose the camera, so Apple can make it thinner.

In fact, I can barely wait for two years from now, when Apple will arrive at a massive breakthrough: they can make the iPad far thinner... If they just remove the screen! And then we will have Apple fanboys lining up to buy a plastic sheet. "Unapologetically dumb!", Apple will say.

This won't affect whether I get an Air 2. I've been an iPad owner for about two years and can't remember ever taking a picture with the rear camera.

Best ADVERTISING I have seen for iPad YET!
Other tables have dark back with boring logos,
Apple's is FRONT and CENTER, and all the Republicans see the Apple logo and not Obama.

You did not read the post, go to corner and hang your head in shame.

iTablet!
Thin and Erasable, the Romans had it right 2100 years ago!

Or maybe a STROBE on some DJ's iPad mixer.
Apple Sheeple are so obedient to the Sheepdog Tim.

Just like iPad Mini.
For over a year before the mini I was saying Apple needed a smaller iPad and I was constantly harassed for thinking some heresy.

Then the Mini was introduced, and it was like Jobs was alive again.

It would cost 20 cents to add a feature that almost all other premium tablets have.

I love Apple's products, but I am not a yesman. I know what I need to make my life more productive and if Apple does not offer it I will go to another device.

Ever use FaceTime and switched cameras to show something?

I also used my iPad to read bar codes and QR codes for various reasons (web links for one)
Some apps are augmented reality like Apparition and ARPort.

Yes, more uses than just taking pictures and movies.

It's got a camera and at the presentation they're selling it as an iPad you can really take pictures with, but you really have to be outside to take pictures with it because there's no flash. Why not?

This. People on the thread are saying it's not a big deal, and it would not normally be, but cook made it a big deal when he focused on the camera. I thought it was ridiculous that he did, but he did and it really makes no sense to single out the camera on a device like this as being so great without having a flash to be able to take the pictures both indoor and out. Most people spend more time with their ipad's indoors than out so what was the point of promoting the camera then?

The iphone is a mini computer. There are desktop items called computers, they are used for accessing the internet, checking email, among other things. Do you carry around a computer or use what you have with you?

Cook put the camera center stage as THE upgrade reason for this ipad. It really makes a lot of sense to do that, an item that is used mostly indoors, but not put a flash on it where it can be used outdoors.

Even cupertino worshipers should see that.

I think the iPad cameras should only be used for FaceTime. They should remove the camera app.

I see too many of these people around.

Lol, remember when people wanted Adone Flash? How times have changed.

Out of interest, would you tell these people they are stupid and should not be using these things?

I doubt many professional photographers are using iPads as cameras. It might make sense as a viewfinder, but that's different than someone pulling an iPad out in public and taking a picture. Just my opinion.

Ok, so it's not the Size of the tablet that is what upsets you?
You are happy for a device as large as an iPad to be used as a camera... Yes?

All you are actually saying is that you do not like how some people choose to use the device?

So iPad Camera = Great, and the better it is, the greater it will be.
Just that you wish people with such a large device should be more considerate.... Yes ?

No I think they look funny taking pictures with it, haha.

And you think professional photographers like the ones in my links look funny also?

They should be using smaller devices also to capture their images?

I'm trying to find out what it is you don't like exactly.

No LED Flash with iPad camera. :(

I use iPad to take up close pictures of small items, and the shadow from iPad is HUGE.

I do set up lights (when I can), but then sometimes the iPad itself gets in way of the light (and the shadow is not totally eliminated)

And don't get with the dumb idea of taking the photo with an iPhone and use the Photo-Streme image (which does not work with movies, BTW),
because then why bother installing camera in iPad if you are not going to use it?

is this air you talking about?

I'm saying an average person holding an iPad Air to take a picture in public looks funny.
