Hey everyone,

So, I just picked up a new 12.9. Last night, after running the battery down to 12%, I plugged it in to charge using the supplied 12 watt adapter and cable. When I plugged it in, I noticed it didn't "chime" as it normally does but the charging indicator appeared next to the battery icon. I left it charging for about 2 hours. When I checked on it, nothing had changed. The battery level was still 12% and the charging indicator was still there.

So, I unplugged the cable from the iPad and reconnected it. This time, it did chime and again the charging indicator appeared. It then charged the battery up as normal.

What puzzles me is why did it show the charging icon, but not charge the battery?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks!

Based of my last experience, I think it's a just a glitch that happens once In a great while where the iPad didn't accept the charge from the electrical source for whatever reason. This has happened to my iPhone before and I disconnected the lightning cable and reconnected it, everything worked normal from that point forward. But as you noted, I didn't hear the chime and that's what flagged me to notice it wasn't charging.

It has happened to me as well BUT I cannot really recall it acting that way with any of my prior iPads. Strange but I was on iOS 11 so maybe the culprit on my end which I cannot rule out.

Oh, I forgot to add, I'm running iOS 10.3.2 and all apps were closed (double tap home button and swipe up) and it was also in airplane mode.

I'll just keep an eye on it over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for your input so far guys.

I have had both my iPad and iPhone fail to make the charging "chime" before. Think it is an occasional glitch.

I had to restore my 12.9" iPad Pro last night and my iMac was not charging it and it did previously. I've noticed newer iDevices are not always recognized by older Macs and/or their chargers. Not worrying about it as long as it syncs and the external chargers work fine.

OP, it sounds like a Glitch. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is happening constantly.

The issue I have is I have an old Android charger with dual USB ports. If I have both my Ipad and Iphone charging one will not be charged. I just make sure I charge alternately. Electronics are man made, not perfect units. I would expect glitches once in awhile.
