appreciate what exactly? How is this shadow going to improve anything artistically? It's almost as if the M4 is too powerful and there's nothing else iPadOS team could improve on so why not make some shadows and flex. This is absolutely garbage because no one asked for it and there are literally so many improvements needed to iPadOS instead of applying their resources to create these shadow effects no one cares about. Apple fans love to defend and deflect it seems.
It shows what tool you have selected without having to check a separate interface. And, I’d expect an artist either on the team or that advises the team suggested the feature.

But your quote says nothing about whether fast charging shortens the lifetime of the battery.
🙄 I'm sure apple would not publish these statements if that were true. I've had my iPad 2, yes iPad 2 still functioning from so many hundreds of charges and the thing still works for hours. Same goes for my iPad Pro m1 with so many fast charges it's still working for a few years now. No difference in battery performance.

On balance it will, though the amount each battery can take is different. iPad batteries being larger *and* having more surface area to use for cooling generally makes them more durable - they had a 1000 cycle rating for a decade before the iPhone finally got that.

That said 18W charging's generally been fine for me - I've used my 96W Mac charger a select few times when it's all I've had, but that's rare.

I don’t think it does anymore, not by much. With proper temperature management and monitored charging, many of the downsides of the old way of fast charging (just more watts) are alleviated. The new iPad Pro can pull up to 40W when the iPad is almost completely depleted and then, over time, it charges at lower and lower wattages. I think the biggest difference in charging will almost always be in the first thirty minutes, the charging profile becomes similar across most wattages after that.

(Running it down again now to see if it pulls any more when below 20%)

An iPad has such a big battery that it probably doesn't matter so much, as the percentage of decrease won't be noticeable for most people, but faster charging means more heat which damages the battery over time.

My point in the comment is that the dismissiveness of tech reviewers that constantly complain about small chargers is unfounded and tiresome because the vast majority of people don't need a fast charger. It wouldn't make sense for Apple to include a fast charger for everyone when 1) most people don't need it; and 2) it does degrade the battery faster.

Copper Apple Logo?
ok...?

Make iPadOS way way better and more useful

That would be something of interest

No, Apple would never have posted something about this if fast charging reduced battery capacity over time.

I'm not aware of any long-term study having been conducted on iPad batteries to see what effects fast charging has on the battery. It's simply an unknown quantity.

That's a real weird take, but the shadow provides visual feedback to when you're about to make contact with the screen and actually lay down a line.

How is Apple "flexing" this feature when they're not the ones bringing it up?

Detail NOBODY ASKED FOR OR CARED ABOUT.

Meanwhile, the battery is still glued, the display is still glued.
Battery has to be, don't want battery detaching from enclosure and damaging during drop.
Display: is not glued, it is an adhesive, can be removed using heat, need for dust/water resistance.
The only attention to detail I want is more attention to repairability.

Oh, and FIX THE HORRIBLE OS.

The “detail” mentioned is not the barrel rotation, it’s the fake pencil shadow on the screen. Talk about “misinformed”.

It’s a brush preview. Along with barrel rotation this is what artists have wanted with the Apple Pencil. It’s been a feature of pen tablets used in Photoshop for nearly 20 years.

Why there are so much empty space inside? Why not fill it with batteries or make the device even thinner?

As mentioned, battery is not glued. It’s pull tab adhesive.

If you're talking about the space at the edge/top, they said right in the video that's where some hardware that's attached to the screen fits into.

I had a 2015 MacBook, and the battery died. Since it was so old I had a go at replacing this; it did not go well.

Been waiting for a replacement for a while, if Apple delivers on ipadOS 18 this’ll be my next machine, so happy to see it’s easy to replace the battery.
