I gave my daughters 9.7" iPad Pros for Christmas. The battery in one was totally dead out of the box. I thought that was odd at first but didn't think to much of it until I went to charge it. Seemed like it took awhile to charge but it did and seemed fine for two days. Then my daughter told me it would either charge very slowly or not at all. I got it back from her today. It's totally dead and won't charge. I have an appointment at my local Apple Store Monday morning.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've read about problems with slightly older iPads but haven't come across any issues with a brand new one. I'm going to guess the will probably replace it that day and not try to fix it?

They should offer you a new one since its only a few days old.
He must have given them a used iPad Pro 9.7” or bought it from a store which had a very old unsold 9.7 Pro on the shelf for almost 2 Years. The battery slowly deep drained and decayed as Lithium Ion chemistry does and rendered itself useless. Sad because all they will do is either Replace the battery or give him a refurbished unit.

Keep us posted curious to know how this turns out.

I bought them on sale at B&H Photo (128GB, $529.99). The one that doesn't work might have been old stock. I'm not sure which way I want to go with this. I bought a new product that was barely used a few days. I rather not have it opened up to have the battery replaced or have the iPad replaced with a refurbished unit. I've had refurbished products from Apple. I know they are good but that's not what I bought. I don't think the Apple Store has new stock of these available for warranty purposes.

Looking at B&H Photo's site, I see this for the return policy -

As a courtesy during the busy holiday season, we have extended our usual 30-day limit on returns and exchanges. Purchases made between November 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018 may be returned or exchanged through February 1, 2018 (or 30 days from date of purchase, whichever is longer).

I purchased them on Oct 27th so I was a few days early. I hear good things about the company so they might work with me if needed but... they are sold out. I have twins, they each received one of these (I feel like Noah when I'm Christmas shopping), I'd like to keep the iPads the same.

I guess this is the drawback of purchasing a previous generation product.

Of course you need to return it. I want to know how you make out with b&h. On their website the fine print says they won't accept returns on computers if the package has been opened. I called them on the phone and the man said tablets aren't computers and that doesn't apply. But tablets are computers and they even list them under the computer heading, so i want to know how they behave when you need to return a tablet, which of course you do.

I just got off the phone with B&H. The person I spoke with was really nice. They don't have any more of these in stock so they can't swap it out. No problem sending it back for a refund if I want to. I'll visit the Apple Store tomorrow to see what they say. I have twins so I'd like to keep the iPads the same. Worst case which won't be bad for one of them is I'll end up returning this and replacing it with a 10.5". I rather not go that route.

Nice to hear that B&H was helpful. I've bought gear from them for many years and bought my 10.5" 256GB LTE iPP there before Christmas - great price, no tax or shipping, and it shipped immediately. Hope you get this straightened out fast!

Nice and good luck finding a replacement for the 9.7 iPad pro. I would think that Apple would have them in stock just in case they need to replace a defective one. I had my iPad replace after using it for a few weeks. A black line had appeared on the screen and they replaced it even though it was presumably a software issue.

I shop at B&H a lot and I'm glad they are offering a refund.

I stopped by the Apple Store yesterday. The person I spoke to confirmed it was dead. She said it would be sent out to one of their facilities. It would either be repaired or replaced. I believe she would have swapped it out in the store if I had bought it from Apple.

I told her I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get that model because it was discontinued. She said Apple products products after they are discontinued. Those are used for warranty cases like this.

I'm surprised that they are trying to fix it rather then just replace it since you purchased it less than a month and tried to use it. I've purchased iOS devices from Best Buy and Apple replaced it. I hope they just give you a replacement so your kids can enjoy their gift.
