Not that i plan on ever really using the ipads camera but since it’s there i thought i’d try it out. Granted i was indoors but there was plenty of sunlight and the back camera picture quality seemed like i was in low light. Also no portrait mode for the back camera? The front camera in the same conditions seemed to take much better pictures and has portrait mode.

Is this normal?

Were you using the ultra wide camera?

Is the lens dirty or wiped down first?

I think the lens is the same as the iPhone 11. I have an 11 and one thing that drives me crazy is that the lens is a smudge magnet and needs constant cleaning. So I wonder if that problem transferred to the Pro 2020.

I took this with my 2020 iPad Pro 11. I think it looks great.

Daylight conditions are easy peasy. It's indoors/low light that separates the wheat from the chaff.

Well at night/low light shots aren’t going to be great given there’s no night mode. For a tablet it’s camera is fine. Can’t say i will use it much apart from for scanning documents with with an ultra wide i have found to be quite useful.

How does the picture quality compare to your smartphone?

Could you provide a sample image from your iPad? It’s hard to give you any opinion of what’s normal or not without seeing what you see as a result.

Mine does have portrait mode for the rear camera. Just checked to make sure.

Ill post some in a sec. when i go to portrait mode it automatically flips to front camera and i can’t switch it back. i just assume i’m missing something.

So here are some samples. Not as bad as I thought but I think my expectations were higher.

Last shot is outdoors with iPad.

I still feel like i’m missing something. like how to access the different back cameras and portrait mode.

maybe just lowering exposure a bit when you take photos?
then adjusting for brightness afterwards?

Are you saying the iPhone 7 photo is better? It looks "brighter" because part of the image is washed out (details lost) and became white. The iPad Pro shows more details across the whole image. With more details across the board some people might think it's low contrast / low light, but you do have more ability to edit it to the contrast / brightness you have when the image contains more details.

Read my first post. I said the ipad was better than my iphone 7, but not by much.

zoom in to the indoor ipad photo, just as grainy as the iphone 7 photo.

it honestly doesnt look as bad in the actual photo as it does on screen when your taking the photo on the ipad. Still i expected a little more for some reason from a 4-5 year newer camera.
