Yup. The New iPad IS hot. So hot, it's flying off the shelves! They are selling like hot cakes!

Uh...wha?.....oh......oh....Never Mind. :p

This is a turn off to me, and just gives me another reason to wait for next year's revision.

One of the most appealing things about the iPad to me is that it's the anti laptop. Never gets warm to the touch, no noise whatsoever, etc.

Now they've added warmth to the feature set. Yes, it's not unbearable, but I'd rather not feel any warmth from my iPad. I've never felt my iPad 2 get any warmer than room temperature.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; DROID X2 Build/4.5.1A-DTN-150-30) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

I don't care

Heheh. Seriously though, that kind of thing is a health-hazard for males. It can reduce sperm-count.

Er, no it won't - sperm needs a temperature of between 92 and 96 degrees Fahrenheit to survive so a temp of 92.5 vs 82.9 is going to make no difference at all to your sperm count

Really? Um...i think the word "hot" is an overstatement. Slightly Warmer then the iPad 2 i will give you...but hot? Nah.

Runs hot, so what? as long as it doesn't crash, explodes or burns my hands that's fine!

Hey, i wonder if the New iPads will fit in the original Apple iPad black micro fiber cases? You'd have to cut out a hole for the camera...but since it's thicker than the ipad 2, perhaps it'll be more snug?

Then people who are complaining about it being um... "warmer" won't have to hold the back of the ipad directly. :p

Apple Fan boy response: Could be good if you live in Alaska.

Yeah, I noticed this right away too. Wasn't alarming but I guess I'm use to the iPad 2 and thought it was odd that it was slightly warmer.
The wife said it was also heavier than her iPad 2 and wanted to wait for the next iPad.

Felt kinda warm on saturday but cool ever since. It's odd feeling an ipad get warm after 2 years of the ipad 1 running cool.

Anyone complaining about the iPad getting warm apparently doesn't have an iPhone. My iPhone 4 gets warm very easily. Not sure why one would be acceptable and the other isnt. Personally I havent felt any heat from my new iPad.

Here at retina labs...

Not hot enough to fry an egg, it seems.

I'm still scrubbing the screen to get rid of the luke warm goop left over from my experiment. But at least I know, now.

Everything is a compromise in technology.

They pretty much had to get a much higher resolution screen in there. That needed more power. They needed a faster CPU to push the extra pixels without a performance hit. That needed more power. So they had to pack in a much bigger battery.

So a few degrees more temperature is what? An epic fail? It's technology not miracle-working.

No one would give a toss if some Spamdroid tablet ran hot - no one even talks about them.

Sure they do. Just not on this site. Go to an android site and you will see.
I have an iphone and an Xperia Play phone. Android does suck but it has it’s fanboys too.

I tried one out at 8am on Friday morning and it was more than 5c warmer than a regular ipad2. Because of this fact alone, I declined to buy one. As I didn't like the user experience, as it brought back a flood of horrible reminders to when I had a MacBook air.

Given that the iPad (3rd generation) still operates at about a hundred degrees cooler than a MacBook Pro, I'm gonna call this a big old non-issue.

A little creepy. Warm enough to convince me not to upgrade.

Own an iPad original. Tempted (very) to get the new iPad. Tried it out at the Apple store. Screen, size, weight were great. Speedy, too. But the original runs cool.

And the warmth was a little creepy. Not hot or uncomfortable. But it harms the illusion that this is just a window into another world, or that it is a book, or a magazine. Real world objects don't get warm like this. On the basis of this reaction, decided to forgo the upgrade at the moment.

Hot iPad in the Bag

Last night when I took my new iPad out of my work bag I found that it was VERY hot. It looked like the smart cover was closed, but when I went to look at the screen, I saw that the battery was down to 18%.

So, clearly one way to make your new iPad very hot is to somehow leave it running while stored inside a bag.

How does an iPad keep running like that?

...and that is why they haven't add a quad-core CPU.

They have to switch to smaller transistors first so they can reduce heat and watt consumption. Definitely going to occur in the next gen.

When I have my iPad I'm usually too involved with something else like claiming the throne or checking up on some information.

Never bother to see if the iPad is hot or not.
