Umm. I thought sales were sluggish. One would think that by reading all the stupid threads here.

Consider the source.

Pre-orders and have changed the game. You cannot tell how much an Apple product is shipping by lines outside of the store. In fact heavy lines after the initial launch are bad because its far easier to leverage FedEx and UPS to drop ship these iDevices by the bushel.

Read the NY 5th Ave store sold 13k iPads on launch day. Are you effin kidding me???

They're not the most successful company in the world for nothing hehe...Apple all the way!!

I think its funny that there are those who would suggest that lines indicate success even if there WERE long lines :D

If that was the case, the other companies would be failures, and we know they're not.

got mine at the apple store at lennox mall in atlanta GA at 11:30.. had to stand in a silly line for 1 hour that ji can tell they just made us do to create excitement and buzz a lady came by with a cart and passed out tickets that correspond to the model you wanted.. ..

i got the 16gig wifi black.. i had the ipad 1 32gig, seldom used it due to the low screen resolution and the lack of ram.. I skipped the 2 cause it had the same low rez screen as the ipad1 but the ipad3 was perfect fro me.. ji got the 16 gig cause i just dont need anything larger since most of my media is streamed now.

Who said they were worried that iPad sales weren't strong? That's a lot of iPads, money, and happy customers! I'm typing at a park right now via iPad and Verizon 4G LTE. I have experienced only LTE network thus far and I'm trying to find dead spots! :D

That is a disappointing number to me considering it's for all 10 launch countries and all are among the largest in the world on a GNP and per capita income basis. Recall the original iPad sold 300K opening weekend, and that was just for two days since it was a Saturday launch and one country, the U.S.

Yesterday I said it was a red flag that Apple chose today to announce its dividend and buyback program. It looks like I may be right and that they were trying to bury the iPad launch sales #s and protect the stock value, esp. given the timing of when each was announced, one at market open, the other after market closed.

Shhh, wait, be quiet, do you hear that? That's all the other tablet makers weeping.

If you listen very carefully you can hear Samsung crying in the corner :p

But if you listen more carefully, samsung isn't crying due to iPad's sales number. Because in fact Samsung is happy as a bird and has just sold 3 millions retina display that comes with the iPad :p

If you think Samsung is weeping over selling 3 million retina displays to Apple, you're not paying attention.

If you think Samsung makes anywhere near the profit off making components for other companies as they do off selling their own ground up products, you're not paying attention.

Not sure if your post was being sarcastic. However, the main difference is that there are already over 50 million iPad 1/2 devices out there this time around. Also by looks of the aftermarket action, the news is well received.

Wow

That's insane. How much more of a boost can AAPL get? It must be tired of hiking up hill the last 2 months. It sure is climbing fast. These numbers are huge. I expected about 2 million, tops.

Analysts better start raising their estimates.

I think the reason for such strong numbers has to do with a few factors... all of the standard ones that you'd expect like: apple fans, people who wanted a new iPad, people who wanted retina, people who wanted 4g, etc.

PLUS... The people who bought 2-10 thinking that this launch was going to be like every single other Apple launch, and that there would be tremendous demand and little supply.

I think a LOT of these iPads will be returned once scalpers (resellers) realize there isn't a market for marking up iPads when Best Buy and Wal-Mart still have stock!

I think the amount returned will be miniscule compared to 3m sold! And this not full world-wide yet!

Next Samsung commercial :

Guy walks by an Apple store during the intro of a new device and says " GREAT ! My other commercial worked. "

That's the impression that some people got because iPads were readily available in stores on Friday.

But some people did not factor the number of iPads that were presold in advance of Friday.

3 million is lot to deliver in 3 days logistically and you're not accounting for continued sales of the iPad 2 which probably account for another 300k sales after the price decrease.

I'm not sure i'm buying into what you're selling at this point on both accounts.

So far off

Wow, you are so far off. What are you talking about? These numbers are huge. Apple already has over 60% market share. And it sells 3 million in less than four days? You might also want to look at the markets reaction to the news before you say they were trying to "bury bad news" It sent the stock up before close and in after market trading hours, even after a 2% boost from the dividend.
