it is good if the have inventory then go ahead and update the new iPad with A6.

with existing supply chain issues (and demand for iPhone 5, iPod touch) I do not see that happening.

also it will piss of lots of new iPad owners.

A6 Will improve performance and if it improves battery life we might see lighter and thinner new iPad.

but at month of Oct, it is too risky to change your product line before the holiday.

then it will priced at $499, you want that?
I highly doubt that. maybe $299

Would be amazing if this was powering the iPad Mini.

That sounds good. Then the iPad mini would have something over both the iPad "new" and the new iPod touch 5 and justify pricing above the touch 5. Although, I think the iPad mini and iPad new new will both have the lightning cable and hence an iPad new new may well have a new processor, A6 based, as well.

What's wrong with two iPad releases in one year, particularly if the is a good reason, in this case two good reasons. Apple doesn't like to get in a rut.

It sucks - but thats the nature of commerce. A good mindset to have is the understanding that the moment of purchase of any electronic device it's essential on the downward trend. It's replacement is essentially in the works.

So if the iPhone 5S/6 came out in 6 months that would be okay? I think people would be pissed lol.

I bought my partner a new iPad almost two weeks ago and tomorrow is the last day I can return it - what should I do? Of course it works great but if
A revised version is a couple of weeks away, is it better to return it now and wait? I've been having this discussion all week, not sure what to do!

Yeah I know what you mean there. :( Ahh well. XD

i want

Im buying the mini ipad and it will sit right next to my toilet. Perfect bathroom accessory. :D

I so hope this is the mini. I want that thing bad, but I want A6 and display equal to or greater than the Fire 2 and Nexus 7. Releasing the mini with a 2 year old processor would be a travesty.

There is no "iPad 3". It just the iPad.

Moving away from major versions number allows them to treat the iPad product cycles more like the Mac product cycles. They could just change to an A6 processor to reduce cost and change the connector for compatibility without any major media events or buying frenzy.

this makes complete sense to power the new ipad mini. The ipad 3 uses a higher resolution so it needs the 4 graphics core of the a5x. this however will probably use the same 3 cores as the iphone 5.

Why would a smaller iPad with retina and A6 cost the same as iPad?

because cost of the 7.85" (let us simply say 7") retina display would be higher or same compared 9.7" retina display

7.85" @ 1024 x768 is cheaper to produce NOT the 7.85" @ 2048x 1536

Hopefully the iPad Mini could somehow hit the 199-250 range. I'm still running on my iPad 1 so a cheaper Mini would be perfect.:apple:

Return it! If a revised version is announced, it definitely will have the lightning port. New processor. Worth the wait.

Is the one you have working for you? Is it doing everything you want? If so, keep it. The one in a few weeks is supposed to be smaller? Is that important? Is the size and weight an issue? If not keep the one you have. Keep in mind that there's no guarantee that anything is coming out before Christmas. These are all still rumors.

It's the nature of high tech. Something "better" always comes along. Whatever you buy will be "out of date" the moment it leaves the store. Don't sweat it.

Seeing as how the article talks about the possibility of it being a revised third-generation iPad, not iPad mini, i would say it's worth the return and wait.

Apple is getting predictable. I would bet:

A6
better camera
Dual microphone for better voice recognition for Siri
slimmer design and lighter
longer battery life (faster charging, due to lower power IGZO display)

All of which are very negligible upgrades if you've got the new ipad. Yeah things would pop up faster with the A6, but the A5 is plenty fast for the app ecosystem right now. The jump from iPad 2 to ipad 3 is massive with the incredible jump in screen quality - web browsing is no doubt better, so is book reading. So was the jump between ipad 1 to 2, with the introduction of the cameras for facetime. but this time through, unless they throw a curveball, I don't see the benefit. Just different specs and numbers on the box. Like the iPhone 5.

So from what you are saying I understand that, the cost of the new ipod touch should be closer to the iPad. Assuming that the cost of goes up smaller the screen is. Would this be right?

Edit:Since iPhone resolution is 640x960 it would not be so high?
