I'd put my money on it being marketed as 'the new iPad Air' with the model being iPad Air (6th Generation) or more likely iPad Air (2014). Same deal with the mini.

Yes, in an effort to decrease the weight of the best iPad they've ever made, they had to limit the amount of engravings they put on the back of the device

I was more thinking - Siri always on, voice control, less need for physical interaction. Then a play on uppercase / lowercase letters - 'Ai' to 'aI' - the 'I' representing intelligence (Siri).. ;)

On second thought - Just add an 'S' to iPad Air - iPad Air

To reduce weight wouldn't they need a mandatory minimum amount of engraving?

Although from pics I've seen the "engraving" seems more like laser etching. No real material loss.

They could just call it the iPad Air and reference the separate models as iPad Air (2013) and iPad Air (2014) on their websites. Simple enough really.

This.

iPad Air (2014)
iPad Mini (2014)

And sooner or later:

iPhone (201X)

Giving everything a number doesn't work so well once you get into the high single digits, or !Jobs Forbid! the double digits... For example, the "iPhone 13S"... Can you imagine the horror???

Probably the new iPad air or the iPad air 2, or something along those lines imo.

Yeah...Apple's really never been wild and crazy about naming their hardware.

They should call it iPad Android! :D

Nearly every customer I've worked with calls Android tablets iPads anyway.

The Next New IPad (end sarcasm) they should just call it iPad Air with the model year as stated already.

It'll be called iPad Air. Just like the Macbook is just the Macbook every year.

The only problem/flaw with that is that non technical people (the general population) will get duped/fooled into buying last years model rather than the new model for the same price as the new model.

It's dangerous to do this for the general public, unless it's visually very different.

You will get ebay adverts where people will just see iPad Air after seeing an Apple advert, and find out they have the old model sent to them.

It makes sense to then keep the names the same.

IPhone 6

IPad 6

This is the sixth iPad anyway I think right?

Then they can do iPad 6s, iPad 7, etc etc. It is hard to keep track of which iPad is which

We had

iPad
iPad 2
The New iPad
iPad with Retina Display
iPad Air

Its getting ridiculous now. Just say iPad 4, iPad 5, iPad 6 then we know.

You may of misunderstood what I was saying.

I am agreeing with you, it should be iPad6 or iPad Air2 or something like that.

I am saying I do not agree with those who think it should be simply named iPad Air

As that's confusing to normal buyers
