Ok so I have enough points with AMEX to spend on an iPad air 2 128gb.

Should I save the points waiting for a new iPad? it would still a month at least for it to be on the AMEX reward scheme. Maybe months...

iPad air 2 128gb, for free. take it or leave it?

I currently have an iPhone 7 and 7 plus. The plus is my phone and barely usable as a tablet. If i got an iPad 9.7 inch id dump the iPhone plus and just use the iphone 7 for when i leave the house. The rest of the time id be on the iPad all the time.

Go for it? I think I answered my own question to an extent, but its good to get the opinions of others.

There's a chance there won't be a new iPad this spring, and another chance it won't show up for a while on your rewards if at all, so I say go for it. The iPad Air 2 is amazing still.

Go for it. I think it's fair to say we can only expect incremental improvements in the next release, and like you say who knows when it will show up on the rewards again.

It's definitely a gamble. If you can hold off until March, it might be worth it. If not, the Air 2 is still a power house tablet. Otherwise, the 9.7 Pro has its obvious advantages.

The iPad Air 2 is a great tablet right now, but I believe it has a limited life span considering it's been out for more than 2 years. I recently sold mine. I've found it to be slower with iOS 10 and will continue to get slower. I did pick up an iPad Pro 9.7 and it's great but it will have a bottle neck due it's 2gb ram. Ideally if you can wait until march. Hopefully we will see an iPad Pro 9.7 with a10x and 4gb of ram.

I would personally make up your own mind and not listen to any of us. This is your purchase not ours.
Oh, the irony of recommending that the OP not listen to people making recommendations. :D

Apparently some people don't understand how an online community works. For the regulars here, we get to know a little about each other, what we find important, what we think is frivolous. We all use our devices in different ways... so we get to know the context and perspective of where these suggestions are coming from.

When someone asks for input, they'll be exposed to suggestions that they might not come up with on their own... there can be "confirmation".... opinions that match what the person already has and with responses that line up with those opinions, the person can have greater confidence in their decision. "correction"... the person may have made assumptions or conclusions that are not correct. "clarification"... the person might be unsure or on the fence and additional dialog may help them to decide.

No it's not slower . Mine works flawlessly

Use your points to get a gift card somewhere that sells iPads. The "points" to redeem for the iPad are nearly 2x the MSRP. Not usually a good deal.

Please, please, please don't redeem your points for merchandise. That is the worst redemption value ever. Gift cards are a slightly better redemption but still not that great. I'd suggest you re-evaluate using your AMEX for everyday spend and participation in the Membership Rewards program if your sole purchase is redeeming for merchandise. Otherwise, it makes sense in most situations to go with another credit card reward program such as a 2% straight cash back card.

Don't get me wrong AMEX Membership Rewards points are very valuable and they offer some perks (I'm an AMEX cardholder myself), but you must transfer the points to travel partners to get the most value. I understand you might want the iPad more than any travel rewards, but take into account how many airline tickets or hotel nights you can get for the same amount of points needed for the iPad. Compare the $$$ value of both rewards. My point will then be obvious...
