Is there some smoke on the water? Or are we remaining perfect strangers for this Deep Purple color on the iPhone 😆

Have to really see both colors in real life to see if the Space Black is black and if the purple looks blue under certain lighting conditions
Going to be a tough call. Have to sleep on it

Can't believe they missed the opportunity to use a Deep Purple song for the introduction (The Burn riff would've been perfect). Then the presentation would've at least had one snippet of music that wasn't garbage.

I will get a deep purple this time, and set my ring tone as "smoke on the water", and message tone as "Hush", LOL

The iPhone 14 Pro introduces two new color options: Space Black and Deep Purple, in addition to Silver and Gold carried over from previous generations.

This is the first time that the a "Pro" iPhone model has been introduced with two all-new color options. Deep Purple effectively replaces the iPhone 13 Pro's Sierra Blue, while Space Black appears to replace Graphite as a darker option.

While Apple usually introduces a striking polychrome color with its new high-end iPhone models, the change from Graphite to Space Black will be notable for enthusiasts who have clamored for a true black color option on the high-end models ever since the discontinuation of the iPhone 7 in Black and Jet Black. Space Black has been available on the Apple Watch for several years and is a decidedly darker color than Graphite.

It is not yet clear if the production process behind last year's Sierra Blue finish, which applies metallic ceramics across the surface to increase durability and create in a unique look, is used to make any of the iPhone 14 Pro's color options.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, on the other hand, are available in Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight, and PRODUCT(RED).

Not the first time... 12 Pros introduced graphite and pacific blue

Leaning towards black here but I've always been a big fan of the silver. Anyone know if the stainless sides on the silver are still a scratch magnet?
I’m really interested in getting the Silver 14 Pro to! But does it still scratch bad?

Yes. They always will be bc they don’t have the PVD or DLC coating of the colored steel which makes it more impervious to scratches. But you can buff out most small scratches on the silver. I do with my SS series 7 aw. I use mothers mag and aluminum polish. Any metal polish and a microfiber. My gold s4 aw barely has got the tiniest mark in all these years. I am a big fan of silver too. It’s classy and classic. I went purple pro max, but of course I’m second guessing if I should have gone silver.

Saw Deep Purple in the store today. Drop dead beautiful. Space black is very dark. The previous graphite is nicer.

I ordered the silver, and yes it will still scratch super easy as there’s no paint layer on top of the steel. However it can just as easily be polished or in my case made into a brushed finish

Not quite true; in 2020 Space Grey was replaced with Graphite and Midnight Green was replaced with Pacific Blue.

To be fair, the differences between the graphite and space gray are the aluminum bezel and camera which are quite a bit darker shade on the SB 14 pro.

If only Apple would make a pro with keeping the camera footprint the same as the 12 and without the notch.

The huge camera lenses and bezels are putrid.

I've been buying iPhones since the original and this is my first year getting a color. I've gone with whatever shade of gray or black each year. This year, I ordered Space Black, but Verizon didn't ship my phone as scheduled (they eventually shipped via UPS Ground on the afternoon of launch day -_-), so I went online and snapped up a purple for same day pickup from the Apple Store. I was initially disappointed that they didn't have my color, but I must say that I'm actually impressed with the purple. It's like gray with a hint of purple in most light, which works great for my tastes. I'll likely go back to whatever shade of black they offer next year (hopefully Jet Black!), but it'll be a nice change of pace having a hint of color for a year.

Love how deep the color purple is. I believe it will be the most popular model.
I agree that Deep Purple will probably be very popular - but… Thinking practically the Silver is probably a safer bet for folks who live in a constantly sunny country. I say that because the darker the iPhone color (or any cellphone for that matter…) the more heat it will absorb from the sun’s Infrared radiation, thus making it more imperative to not leave it exposed to the sun because that’ll practically guarantee the phone’s thermal overload protection will kick in more frequently. A friend bought a silver iPhone that looked really nice but ignored good advice to use a clear case (to protect and still show off how nice it looked) but he bought a dark green hard case and learned the hard way when the dark case absorbed the sun’s heat and practically baked the phone inside it! He spent a lot of his vacation in Greece finding somewhere shady to get his phone working again and not listening to the hundreds of songs he had loaded his phone with to save using expensive data streaming music. My Deep Purple 14 Pro Max is on back order and probably won’t be delivered until the end of October!

I can't tell if I like the purple or not. Looks fine in some light, way too dark in others. I need a good video to decide.
Agreed. I’ve taken a chance and ordered the Deep Purple but if I’m not 100% happy with the color after around 7 days I’m sending it back for the Silver. If Apple had given us a PRODUCT (RED) choice I’d have gone for that. Time alone will tell if I’ve made the right color choice.

Even if they are, putting it in a clear case will still show how nice it looks and keep the trim scratch free (especially if it spends time in a pants pocket with keys & coins threatening to scratch it.

I regret it because, well, the purple isn't purple. Oh well. Back to black next year..
