I heard from my father's, brother's, nephew's, cousin's, former roommate that next year's phone will... And you are so not going to believe this. Answer calls.

I love the rumor mill. lol Churring out deets for a product replacing a product that isn't even out yet like its a shot scoop. Keep on churning! Now, can you find out when the new AppleTV is dropping :p I needz
Is the iPhone better than other phones when it comes to call quality?
We still use a landline phone and I mostly use my cheap Android phone for 2-step verification texts and the occasional Lyft.
I use a wired headset to make the truly rare phone call.
Yes, my phone has something called a 3.5 jack.
Oh! And an iPad 7 with headphone jack and biggie Home button.
So when will ATV be able to make and receive phone calls?
Perhaps I'm learning toward sarcasm by now.

I think this is the most likely scenario - and I think it has been the most likely scenario.

iPhone 18: Inherits Dynamic Island from the 2025 iPhone models
iPhone 18 Pro & iPhone 18 Pro Max: Smaller Dynamic Island

iPhone 19: Inherits Dynamic Island from the iPhone 18 Pro & iPhone 18 Pro Max
iPhone 20: Under Display

I truly believe that there was always a near-zero chance that Apple would ever release an iPhone with a hole punch cutout aligned to the leading edge of the device.

To further drive my point, this timeline is backed by history. For this example, I am omitting the mid-range flagship models (ie. iPhone XR, iPhone 13, iPhone 15) as they have their own timeline and are never the first to lead, making them redundant here.

The timeline is as follows:

The iPhone X (2017) introduced a notch that lasted a total of 4 years through the 2018, 2019, and 2020 iPhone models; shrunk in 2021 lasting 1 year before being eliminated by the Dynamic Island.

The iPhone 14 Pro (2022) introduced the Dynamic Island that lasted 4 years through the 2023, 2024, and 2025 iPhone models; shrunk in 2026 lasting 1 year before being eliminated by under display technology.*

That being said, only time will tell.
*Assuming current rumors prove true
Well said !! I agree !! Punch hole - nooo !

Ross Young has already revealed what the next models will be like, apparently the iPhone with a full screen will only be in 2030.

The iphone 17 pro max has won me over to ditch my 12 pro max in terms of a new design and features.

Only 5 days to go until i receive my new phone.

If Ross young is correct i will be skipping the iphone 18 pro max. I am not sure about the anniversary model.

But my eyes are focusing on the iphone 20 & especially the iphone 22.

I hope they repeat the Blue for the 18ProMax. The colour, the selfie camera and the 48MP with (cropped) 8x telephoto are the things that have made me hesitate to upgrade from 16PM to 17PM....

But I'll have self-control this year!

So from this I take it the 17 series is so underwhelming that the best option is to wait until next year (unless your current phone breaks.)

If enough people do sit out the 17 series Tim might get a clue.

I don’t get this. I’m not picking up the 17 because my 16PM is doing great, but the iPhone 17 Pro is the biggest leap since the iPhone 13 line. I don’t know what more you want, but this is as close to perfection a phone can be with current tech.

Are you expecting a phone to have a button where it transforms into a car, boat or plane?

Dynamic Island has never bothered me that much— I rarely watch movies on my 15 Pro Max, which is when it’s at its most annoying…I do find it helpful to see which apps are running but we also have Live Activities for that. Won’t miss it when it’s gone but fine either way.

If people hold off, Apple might get the idea that annual updates are too frequent.
Kind of like Ubuntu, which is updated every six months, even if it isn't ready.
I'm still using Windows 10, with the extension for another year, on a 2014 PC.
Apple could change their ways and still not starve to death.

Can’t even enjoy my excitement of the 17 pro cuz macrumors has already moved on to the 18 pro rumors. Wgafas about that right now?! Lol

I hope the punch hole doesn’t come to fruition because it is just hideous!
Ross Young explained that it will come because the technology for placing the Face ID sensors will come before the front-facing camera, as the current under-screen camera technology is not yet acceptable for the quality Apple wish.
That's why the process will be gradual.

Well it looks like a mistake … so waiting for a slab of glass or something innovative…or is that word dead with  !

Geekerwan did. He's one of the only that matter to me . The rest are just reading specs like anancephalics.

Notebookcheck and gsmarena are good as well .

Mkbhd and the rest pawning over colors and whatnot .

Unfortunately the "big" reviewers are all rather superficial , yet they're the one who get the devices the fastest

Ok so the screen is 6.5 on this iphone air … why is it an issue with Dynamic Island?? It’s positioned lower by a fraction due to its size … also I think its with the camera Plate on the back, also the ratio curve of the front screen at 6.5in. New design help put a bigger battery in it - so things shift a little !! The battery for these phones were the STAR !! I love the Dynamic Island design- it works wonderfully with the iOS software! Battery life in this thing is another story - it’s not in everyone’s hands yet and it depends entirely on the usage of the human using it !! I am a power user for my iPhone 16 pro …. I have used my phone all day until it hits 30% to 40% when I go to bed. It goes on a magical MagSafe charger - just brilliant technology!! I haven’t seen my phone ever hit 20% in the year I have had it. Battery level is at 96% with all the power saving options on - so my iPhone 16 pro kicks butt in battery -
The 17 series and the air with all the other talk in the presentation… the battery is the clear winner in all three phones !! So leave the Dynamic Island alone hehe !
