I'm a little confused, I got a new iPhone and the serial number format seems to be completely different but my sister got a new one and it begins with 5K.

I thought 5K were refurbs.

5k are not refurbs. they are replacement units intended for warranty replacements. so still brand new.

also the refurbs all have new outer shells so are like brand new anyways. only the motherboard is refurb'd and components. dont believe everything you read

I guess it couldn't really be that old considering they haven't even been out a month.

The thing is here nobody can tell it for sure.
I got my iPhone 4 replaced a month ago and the serial begins with QR! So Apple might have switched the factories and now 5K might be manufacturing brand-new iPhones.

My two 4S's I have had both have C39 in the beginning of their serial.

What's the difference between a C39 and DNP? Because I purchased a brand new white iphone 4S (Well October 21). Mine starts with DNP. My sister has a white iphone 4S as well and hers start with C39. What's the deal with this?
