and Not yet (once there is a jailbreak you should be able to, right now itunes will not let you downgrade)

Does the appearance of the bars really make that big of a functional difference to you? My phone works just fine with the new bars and I actually know the true signal strength of the area I'm in. I don't understand what makes them "ugly". They look like bars to me.

I like the number a lot better then the bars.

I completely agree. I wish this was an option in the settings. I guess it's their way of keeping us from knowing too much.

The appearance of many things on the phone don't make a functional difference though, but they are still preferred and are some of the reasons that compel people to choose an iPhone over another phone. Though being bothered by the bars being slightly taller in a tiny part of the phone is kind of OCD.

Since they don't fix anything I can't see why you'd want them.

They also fixed the issue of not connecting to an exchange server timeout in 4.0.1. so whoever uses the iphone in an enterprise environment should have the 4.0.1. update.
