With leaks this consistent with regards to the case & specifically the rear, we can pretty much guarantee this is what the next iPhone will look like.

I agree those bands are fugly, but maybe the pictures just don't do the phone any justice

My retina ipad mini seems to have a plastic logo.

The aluminium shell is opaque to radio frequency, which means that there needs to be a way for the transmissions in and out of the case. As plastic is permeable to radio frequency electromagnetic waves, they used a plastic logo and positioned the antenna for the WIFI-module behind it.

Liquid metal is not a metal in the conventional sense, one feature of it being not opaque to radio frequency transmissions. Which means they decided to use it on the newest iPads for the Apple logo.

All of this Apple Logo antenna placement problems do not make sense on the cellular data versions of the newest iPads, because they come with a plastic covered cellular modem antenna window at the top of the case. But probably in order to keep the internal layout as cost effective as possible, they kept the WIFI-antenna at the same place.

Recessed volume buttons are an utterly stupid idea, because when you have a case on the phone they will be even more recessed and unless that entire casing is scratch resistant, going by Apples previous models, you'll want a case. So expect many a frustration trying to adjust your volume.

Protip for Apple:

1. Make the iPhone thicker
2. In the extra space you just got hide the camera lens.
3. Use the rest for battery
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!!

Say what you want but a protruding camera is something Steve would've never green-lit.

He green lit it in the iPod Touch 5G. Yes, he was very much alive when that was designed.

I think he meant it feels like plastic, but why use plastic on the outside if it is Liquidmetal? Unless they can't color Liquidmetal and thus have to use plastic on the outside, in which case I don't know why you'd use Liquidmetal in the first place, since plastic is already there and radio transparent.

Camera gate! You would think it would be designed better than this? Good thing its still a rumour I guess?

Hmm...I don't remember camera gate with any of the Samsung Galaxy phones or the Nokia Lumia 1020....or the iPod touch for that matter. The only place it seems to exist is this thread.

I called this on a previous thread, I hope this is the way Apple goes with the new iPhone:apple:

Let me guess...you hope it goes this way because you want the 5.5" phone. If the people who don't get screwed oh well because you got what you wanted.

Some comments on this design if this is all true:

First - if they are making the logo out of some super scratch resistance metal. Why not make the entire back out of this same metal.

Second - if the camera is protruding they why the Fck not just make the phone slightly bigger and give us a bigger battery. Total fail if this is true.

Third - why recess the volume buttons? Will make using them more difficult as well as makes taking pictures with them not very good IMO.

Fourth (not new) - why made this ugly bands sooooo big. Come on now everyone knows that looks like *****.

Lastly, I'm 99% sure we are not getting a 5.5" phone. There has been 0 parts leaks and yet we still see people saying it is coming. News flash - IT'S NOT ***** COMING!!!!

Firstly, they probably can't use Liquidmetal for the entirety of the device case yet, or it isn't cheap enough to do so.

Second, no comment
Third, no comment

Fourth, engineering limitations probably.

Lastly, there actually have been some possible 5.5" leaks, refer to this macrumors article of a purported 5.5" iPhone 6 display leak: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/21/5-inch-iphone-6-backlight/

There've also been possible 5.5" internals, but sure, all of them could have been for something else, like an iPad maybe.

The fact that you see far fewer 5.5" leaks could suggest it will be coming weeks to months after the 4.7" is available.

I called this on a previous thread, I hope this is the way Apple goes with the new iPhone:apple:

iPhone 'Pro'?

Professional is depict for a professional product; in the case of the rMacBook Pro & the Mac Pro.

NOT a consumer device, there will never be an 'iPhone' Pro, because it has a larger display.

The *new* Apple community consist of nonsensical monkeys.

Wait... The... Lens pops out of the rear shell.... WHAT!?

Talk about sacrificing practicality over a sleek design.. Laying this on every surface will be a pain.
Agreed. This remains the one thing I hate about my Nexus 5 as well. It is just silly to have such an important piece of the phone (camera) more vulnerable to scratches/cracks than it should be.

It isn't vulnerable on the iPhone though, because it is made of sapphire, and the likelihood of it scratching or cracking is incredibly low. You literally can't scratch it under any normal means, and if a woman's diamond ring hits that tiny lens, which I have no idea why the camera lens would ever hit on top of a ring finger, but if that happened, it's so unlikely as to be completely irrelevant.

That camera cover looks quite a lot bigger than the one on the iPod touch.

I wonder if it's removable to allow for interchangeable lenses/camera gadgets etc.

To be fair you could see this on the original leaked image as well.

Two things: it's not physically attached to the device here, as they are separate parts and this isn't a completed phone, and this is an extremely zoomed in picture for which you couldn't tell the difference really.

What's that Apple logo made of? Sapphire?

Likely Liquidmetal

Indeed, maybe it's an unfinished part. It might be machined to be smaller and possibly to have a bayonet mount for external lenses.

yeah yeah nobody likes the camera but the second Tim Cook introduces it as "magical new camera patent" 90% of people on this board will go nuts about it and will want to have it instantly.

Protruding lens should be fine with a case but I think this makes it a better reason wait next year.

If so, next year, the camera probably gets jettisoned, as "thinner" seems to trump all else. Don't let the utility of a camera get in the way of the quest for thinner, just kick it out of the box, keep the price the same though, and have this crowd rationalizing it with "get a real camera."

I'm surprised iPhones are still shipping with batteries built inside too. The battery takes up most of the space. Get rid of the battery and the next iPhone can be much thinner and lighter. Again, take that bit of utility out but keep the price the same, and have this crowd rationalizing it with "get a battery case. Those that want long battery life can get a bigger battery case."

Apple could also jettison the on-board storage, or cut it to 8 or 16GB. That would also cut weight and maybe invite more "thinning". But keep the price the same and have this crowd rationalizing it with "stream everything from the cloud" (ignoring the toll pain of cellular data tiers with "use wifi").

Get rid of the long-term, industry-standard 3.5" audio jack that works with ANY audio components and headphones. Replace it with a proprietary (licensing required) lightning connector requiring a premium-priced adapter or maybe a whole new set of Beats headphones with lightning connector (while all the other headphone makers are stalled in getting the licensing so that Beats are the only choice for an extended period of time… or maybe grant someone who makes headphones priced north of $3K or $5K an early license to keep the accusations of non-competitive at bay while still leaving Beats as the only practical choice).

The way things are going, that's probably the iPhone 7 or 8. Remarkably thinner with less user feature utility for about the same price. :D

I'm glad you aren't at Apple and in charge because there would literally never ever be any innovation.

I doubt it. I also don't really see the point in this since 98% at least won't ever use the feature if it were to happen. Also because there are already numerous third party camera add on type accessories. Nothing about that camera module looks like it will be able to have anything attached to it anyway. The most I could see them doing, which someone suggested, is to make it magnetic so that an add on could magnetically lock on around the lens module.
