Hey guys, I am SO sorry - feel like a complete idiot right now. My wife just got the new iPhone 8 and we've been looking all over for the portrait mode. We are both coming from iPhone 6 versions so this feature is new to us. Everywhere I look online, it should be as simple as opening up the camera app, swiping left or right among the various modes (Video/Photo/Square/Pano/etc) and it should be one of those right? It's not on hers. It's a brand new iPhone 8 with iOS 11 installed. I am so confused. Am I just missing something completely obvious here? Thanks

New iPhone 8 - No Portrait Mode option?

Portrait mode is dependent on the two separate cameras. Until they find a way to add a second camera to the regular 8 it just simply isn't possible to do the portrait mode. It's not like it is a software hold out for the 8.
That’s one of the (many) reasons I’m getting the X. I can’t comfortably hold the Plus, but I really want the better camera.
Also, I’m a woman with a 7. It mostly goes in my pocket.
Welp, I was being completely dumb. Thank you all for the help. I have a 6s Plus and am waiting for the iPhone X. I just assumed that the iPhone 8 would have it as well, but I guess not. I agree with you guys though, think it's ridiculous for them not to have such an option for the iPhone 8. Oh well, thanks for the help
Lmfao! So ****ing true. They carry them in their small purses around their shoulder. They don’t know the real struggle that most men deals with when only having the pocket as an option for the iPhone plus.

I’ve been carrying Samsung Notes, Samsung Galaxy models and iPhone Plus phones for a couple of years now and they all go in the pocket.

I'd much rather have pockets then have to constantly sling a bag (large or small) over my shoulder everywhere I go. I don't know how women do it...

Interesting as I just mentioned in another post about how I thought Apple limited software, limiting the portrait mode to the back of the 8 plus and not the front. So does this mean the front of the X has two cameras?
They obviously were able to figure out a way to utilize all the Face ID tech to achieve what they use the dual cameras for. Essentially they need the ability to differentiate the foreground and background. Face ID can obviously achieve this which makes sense why the 8 Plus doesn't have it on the front cam.
Personally I’ve never understood this pocket nonsense. But hey I can’t understand putting things in my pocket in the first place. That’s what my handbag is for. I think I’d feel uncomfortable with a phone pressed against my leg all the time.
Finding things in said handbag, well that’s another type of struggle!!
