Just saw an iPhone ad (not sure which carrier) that featured someone asking Siri what the name of the person was that she met at a certain cafe several months ago. Siri responded with the name of the person she met. I tried something similar on my 16 Pro running 18.1 beta and it gave me Google search results. I’m pretty sure what was shown off in this ad is the Siri ‘personal context’ feature which won’t be rolling out until next year. In very tiny fine print it said ‘some features and languages will be coming over the next year’.

How often has Apple advertised a feature that isn’t available yet before? I can see people seeing that ad, thinking oh cool, attempting to do it on their new phone and then getting annoyed when it doesn’t work. I guess they need something to sell these new phones but I don’t know how that’s good for the Siri brand. Once something doesn’t work how often do people go back and try it again?

I imagine in early 2024 there was a conversation in some Apple conference where the hardware team and the software team were talking about iPhone 16 lineup.

Hardware team to the software team: Ok guys, this year we are really leaning on you. We don't have much so this is going to be all about software.

Software team: Oh yea. Cool. We totally got this.

Hardware team: That's so good to hear because all we came up with was a camera button. So we're going to act like Apple Intelligence is a feature of the iPhone 16, even though it's really software. So you guys have to be ready.

Software team:

Hardware team: You get what we're saying, right?

Software team: [someone under their breath] dude what the hell is Apple Intelligence?

Hardware team: What?!

Software team: Nothing. We got this! Late 2024 we'll be ready.

Hardware team: You mean late September, right?

Software team: Uh huh. yep. Yea.
