Just got a new Bluetooth fm radio transmitter for my car and realized I didn't have a charging cable for my car! I have enough for other places, but I like to leave them in place and I'm glad I saw this!

...and what was this article a few months ago about Amazon selling cheap Apple cable ?

Perhaps Amazon only saying their "certified" so the rest of us believe it... Regardless what a company says, Apple still have strict pricing... There can be very low prices, but well,, buy at your own risk, like anything, not only applies to cables.

At that price tough, i won't buy it.

:)

Lots of people who are apparently not in your social circle

I just don't see how it's necessary. Apple have been pushing the PC-less future for years now, and most heavily with the iPhone not requiring a computer at any time. I sync through iCloud, I back up through iCloud, all my content and services are in iCloud, I update OTA. I don't think even transferring photos is a genuine reason either, cause there's many ways of doing it without connecting physically. What are you plugging your phone into your PC for?

The only thing I could think of is the rare occasion you might have to perform an iOS restore, which if you're doing regularly you definitely have larger problems.

"Apple charges $19 for its 1-meter Lightning to USB charging cable, but you can save yourself $13 by purchasing an Apple-certified 0.9-meter Anker Lightning to USB charging cable for just $5.99 on Amazon. "

Then, why are Apple cables so expensive (3,17 times more expensive)? Same for SSD, RAM, etc.

Because Apple didn't get where they are financially by not ripping people off.

You can find lightning cables for cheaper than Apple charges pretty much any day. And didn't Macrumors recently posted an article saying something like 90% of non Apple chargers fail or don't work properly?

No, those reports where about fake Apple chargers not about chargers sold under a different name. I have several chargers and cables from Anker and they are all excellent, definitely better quality than the original.

Another happy Anker cable purchaser. I have a few, no problems.
I'm surprised that at least someone on here hasn't said they are **** just because the company was formed by a bunch of friends working at Google.

So macrumors is just straight up advertising now?

Gonna move on I guess.
You've gotta do what you gotta do. No snark intended. Good luck.

The writer thought the information might be useful to members and some members seem to agree. If MR earned money by the clicks (in this case, a user does not have to in order to buy the product at the price mentioned), that's a good thing. It's important to note that Mr. Rossignal included this at the end of the article :

As @rshrugged mentioned, I indeed thought this article might be useful for those who were gifted new Apple products. The article is not a straight-up "advertisement" in the sense MacRumors did not coordinate with or receive any payment from Anker for this article. We happen to be an Amazon affiliate in general, and any commission earned this way surely helps keep the website running.

Without charging to read articles, there have to be sources of revenue in order for MacRumors to remain sustainable.

As mentioned, I included a disclaimer to let our readers know that MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Amazon. There is no obligation to click these links, and readers can always load Amazon in a separate tab and search for the product themselves if they do not wish to support this website. This article was also posted on December 25 — a day in which we typically have few if any stories. These articles are extremely uncommon on almost any other day of the year.

While the majority of readers who commented do not seem to have taken issue with this article, I do appreciate the feedback, and I hope my response helps clarify things.

If I could pen a Shakespearean sonnet to braided Anker lightning cables I would. Puts *official apple* junk to shame.

This is part of that other 10%. So is Amazon Basics. Except instead of $5.99 for 3 ft, you can get 6 ft for only $7.99

Makes me wonder if this guy has an ad blocker on as well? Why should he enjoy a quality website free of charge and have to see any advertising of any kind? /s

Maybe these are good, but I've had plenty of third-party certified cables randomly stop being certified (F U, Apple), so I'm wary. At this point, I only use either legit first-party Apple cables or 75-cent knockoffs.

Sounds like this one is actually certified by Apple, unlike all of the other cables out there. I hope it wouldn't fail.

For those lucky enough to find a new iPhone, iPad, or AirPods under the tree today, now is the perfect time to outfit your home, car, work desk, bedside table, or elsewhere with extra Lightning charging cables.

Apple charges $19 for its 1-meter Lightning to USB charging cable, but you can save yourself $13 by purchasing an Apple-certified 0.9-meter Anker Lightning to USB charging cable for just $5.99 on Amazon.

The cable qualifies for free two-day shipping in the United States for Amazon Prime members. Without a Prime membership, free standard 6-8 days shipping in the U.S. is available on orders over $49 in total.

While counterfeit Apple cables and chargers on Amazon are common, and potentially dangerous, Anker claims its cable is certified by Apple under its MFi Program. MFi-certified products have been certified by the developer to meet Apple performance standards. The Wirecutter, owned by The New York Times, said Anker has the best Lightning cable.

Anker cables are waaaaaaay over-priced. There are a lot of MFi cables that are cheaper and better. I have used iXCC cables for a while and they are half the price and last even longer.

A $6 certified cable from a known reputable manufacturer is "waaaaaaay over-priced"? Or simply that there might be somewhat cheaper versions out there (perhaps not from a similarly known reputable company, etc.)?

Hmm... new forum member with three posts, all resurrecting threads to promote iXCC cables?
