Looking at the iPhone 10th anniversary and the Samsung S8 and Note that have compelling reasons to "jump ship".

We are looking at £800 to £1000 here folks, this is a major investment.

A 2 year apple warrantee out of box must be offered at these price points.
And also a serious look at appleCare+ to protect investment with say 3 year cover (inc accidents)

If I'm spending $1000+ then I don't mind dropping another $129 for AC+. I don't think that would be a factor in determining if you are jumping ship to Samsung or not.

Luckily EU folk already get this.

I live in the UK and the "6 year rule" I think you are replying to if like having teeth extracted.

Not planning on "jumping ship" but Samsung offer 2 year warrantee, apple must match to compete.
Cheers

UK too and Apple happily oblige the warranty for 2 years, but we do pay that special extra apple/brexit tax.

They really do need to do this. Apple are pushing their luck as far as I'm concerned, there's gonna be a point where people are just gonna say no. Their competition is just getting stronger and stronger each year, so they're gonna be forced to switch things up and actually give their customers some real value for money.

Is the 2 year thing with Samsung a UK thing? I'm pretty sure it's only 1 year here in the USA.

Apple must match.

You're completely wrong. Unless you know the future, which you don't, there is no must for Apple to match warranties.

The rule is an EU law which all retailers must abide by whether it’s Apple, Samsung or anyone.

I had a dishwasher from John Lewis go on me after 3 years, quoted 6 year rule, it was like getting blood out of a stone.
Apple must offer 2 year warrantee on iPhone 10th, plus attractive applecare+ prices.

Which is why Apple inflates in the price in the EU.

I would prefer to choose whether or not I want to pay for additional warranty.

No, the UK people get fleeced for any item we buy in the shops. It’s not exclusive to apple.

It's 1 year from Samsung in the United States. So Apple will continue to be 1 year here at least I'm guessing.

I hope for apples sake they don't. These devices that are premium prices and as per what apple say should last "at least 3 years" or 365 x 3 = 1095 or £7.00 a week approx.
Apple need to put their money where their mouth is and match Samsung EU 2 year warrantee.

Apple does not HAVE to compete with Sammy's warranty. No way I would change to android for an extra year of warranty. I have owned 10-15 iPhones and have never used any warranty on any of them.

For US consumers, just pay with a card like Amex Platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve and you get an extra year warranty.

Hi
You and me owing 10+ iPhones since 2007.
However we paid £199 in 07/08 and approx £500 for iPhone 5 these £1000 smartphones as preciously mentioned are getting to the boundaries of "if this value for money".
12 month warrantee, I say, if on edge, I'm being pushed over.
I need value for money and put myself in a working mans shoes.

Many people don't have such cards, you sound like a rich man.
Normal folk are not likely to get one just for the new iPhone 10th.
I recommended iPhone to all my staff since 2007, over the years they have "seen the light" and bought into iOS, now I'm thinking did I guide them down the wrong road?.

If you paid 199 in 07/08 wasnt that the subsidized price? You can't compare that to the full price now.

From memory I had to 'jail break' as in the UK O2 had excessive rights for first couple of years, and I was on T mobile (now EE).
I'm certain I paid £199 LOCKED to O2, but sim free.
Apple charged for a software update (once)! a tenner from memory.

Eh, that's not possible. You've forgotten. Apple has never charged for software update & locked can't be sim free. Sim free means it's unlocked and 199 was what you paid upfront along with a contract on o2.
