Well I just put my 20gb iPod 4g up on eBay so I could buy one of the new color models, so if Apple do come out with a 5th gen in a few months time (which seems ridiculous) I will go absolutely nuts.

Someone reassure me, that's not going to happen is it? IS IT?!

Well...
I guess it depends on what you make of that "guarantee" thing.

Where's my iBook :'(... Dell's website is getting more attractive everyday, especially with all the flyers they send me. I can get a laptop for £299 which is more powerful than Apple's current iBook at £699. Um... Apple... do something about this.

*cough* 256mb ram... acceptable (just) on MacOS, won't even play ball with WinXP..

*cough* NiMH 8 cell battery... WHAT CENTURY ARE YOU LIVING IN DELL? Wake up and smell the lithium! NiMH is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. not that lithium is great but oh. my. god.

Built in recording...yes please

Direct recording via a built in mic, is a big plus for me. I tried the Olympus voice recorders with mp3 playback some years ago, when they were first launched, but they didn't come with OSX software then, although you could make it work.
I hope this recording option pans out soon or that Motorola phone hits the streets, then I can pass on the iPod shuffle.

Solitaire!

-Doh.
That said... I do really love playing solitaire on my photo

I reckon this merging down the photo into the standard line of iPods signifies a new 'premium' model will be upon us soon - almost definitely video.

256MB is just as acceptable on Windows XP as it is with MacOS. XP will run on 128MB for that matter (not fast, but it will run).

1g

I must admit im still happy with my 1g iPod, Its served me well for a LONG time now, It always felt sturdier than the new models and still lasts 8 hours without fail

5 gig is plenty of music, enough to keep me sane at work at least :)

rush?

Any Rush Limbaugh fans notice that he's missing from Apple's collage of radio shows on their website? Rush is always touting Apple products and has been talking about podcasting for weeks for their members. You'd think Apple would appreciate free exposure to the world's largest radio audience.

I believe that's because Rush charges for his podcasts, via the Rush 24/7 membership. All of the podcasts I've seen on iTunes so far are free.

Example: The Dave Ramsey Show has one free hour linked on iTunes, but the 3 hour podcast, which is only available to those who pay the membership fee for the special features on his website, is not available on iTunes.

I assume the commerce stuff will all get figured out and we'll be able to get the paid stuff via iTunes at some point.

Apple Refunds

Again with the asking:

What if someone bought an iPod last week, with the non-color screen option. Can they return their iPod and get a new one this week since it has been less than 14 days?

Mike

It's very simple to get the answer to your question if you bother to visit Apple's website. Click Store/Customer Service/Post Purchase.

You can read the refund and exchanges policy right there or select this link:

http://www.apple.com/support/store/postpurchase.html

Here is the text or their policy:

RETURN & REFUND POLICY
If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a pre-built product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 10 business days of the receipt of the product. If the item is returned unopened in the original box, we will exchange it or offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. The product must be returned to the Apple warehouse within 10 business days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. A 10% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory. If you purchased your order using an Apple Instant Loan or an Apple Business Lease, you may be asked to provide a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) for Apple to assess the 10% open box restocking fee.

Please note that Apple does not permit the return of or offer refunds for the following products:

Product that is custom configured to your specifications
Opened memory
Opened software
Electronic software downloads
NOTE: Apple recommends that you (1) use a carrier that offers shipment tracking for all returns and (2) either insure your package for safe return to Apple or declare the full value of the shipment so that you are completely protected if the shipment is lost or damaged in transit. If you choose not to (1) use a carrier that offers tracking and (2) insure or declare the full value of the product, you will be responsible for any loss or damage to the product during shipping. Please note that the United States Postal Service (USPS) offers limited tracking capabilities and that there is a 30-calendar-day waiting period before the USPS will initiate a trace.

FINALLY-don't wait around beyond the time limit and then get bent out of shape when you can't return your product. If you are beyond the time limit, you may still be able to return your product as long as you ask nicely and a reasonable tone. Apple has been very helpful to me and my customers in the past if you ask them nicely and plead your case logically.

Hope this helps...

It sucks that there is no way to autosync to the shuffle like the other ipods, but I found that dragging the songs to the shuffle's list and then syncing put the podcasts first in the shuffle, even if they are not at the top of the list. At this stage I haven't decided if this is a good or a bad thing (what if I want my music first?).
Also the shuffle correctly bookmarks the podcasts, even if they are not converted to AAC.

what really bothers me is that iTunes will allow me to actually drag podcasts into my shuffle and it will sit there and copy the entire file to it and then of course....IT WON'T PLAY IT?!?! this is both poor design and a huge pain in the @$$.

Ouch. Much as I'd like to think otherwise, I suppose it's at least partly true in my case.
Got my 20GB 4G with the Cram 'n' Jam rebate last July. Just upgraded to the 60GB iPod photo for Fathers' Day. My wife also got me a 512 shufffle at the same time. Part of the reason was that I'd maxed out my 20GB and wanted to carry all my music/audiobooks with me, part was that the color screen was cool, and part was that it's easier to take photo's to Grandmom's on an iPod instead of lugging the PBook around. Still, the final straw was that my daughter's U2 iPod was stolen back in March. Now she gets my old 20GB, so everyone is happy, even the thief who broke into her car (yes, quite stupid to leave your purse in plain sight in your car, even if you are parked directly in front of your home).

FYI- I took my receipt back to the Apple store yesterday, got my $50 back for the price drop on the 60GB, then turned around and got the 1GB shuffle. My wife had taken over the 512, and I was clearly never gonna see it again. ;)

I suppose this is classic (and typical) American excess to some. But I make decent money, and we contribute plenty to church and charities, so I have no trouble sleeping at night.

For those of you with shuffles who can't get podcasts to play...In Importing prefs there is now a preset under AAC for "podcast". Use this setting to convert any of your podcasts and copy the new versions to your shuffle and they should play fine.

I just purchased the 30 gig iPod Photo, from Amazon. They had it down to $330, and $30, for another 10 gigabytes is worth it to me.

I have a non-color U2 iPod that I bought pretty much only because it wasn't white, and a coupon magically appeared from Apple soon after its release. Now I feel even more lame :)

Excellent move by Apple. This now merges and simplifies the product line, effectively lowers the price of the iPod photo, and upgrades the iPod with color screens. Well done!
Thank you for saying this.

iPod Photo 60GB was $599...now $399!

Reduced price of the 1GB iPod Shuffle.

iPods (regular size) all to color screens with photo capability.

Sweet! :D

Well, iTook the plunge and ordered an iPod.

This won't be my fifth or sixth or a recent trade for one I bought 2 weeks ago or any of that. It'll be my first iPod and my only mp3 player.

I'd been meaning to do it (I found it hard to actually pick it, engrave it, and hit Submit, especially with the expenses involved) for a while, and I didn't even know this new color one was coming or iTunes 4.9 or Podcasting or any of that crap. I happened onto Apple's site yesterday, and there it was, and it took me a while of looking on there and poking around boards before I realized this was pretty new.

So I'm glad I held off. I'd been thinking of getting a Mini, really. But I kept...not doing it. And now I'm getting me what's basically an iPod Photo, hot off the presses. :)

As long as we are not too attached to material goods and flaunt them to friends and neighbors to prove that we are keeping up with the Joneses, I guess one deserves anything she wants to buy. It is your right.

I have a brother who lives in Europe, and myself having lived there also, I do see that the Europeans are more judicious with their money.

Americans like excess (at least in Orange County - just visit the South Coast Plaza mall). Nothing like it. Keeps Apple in business.

Maybe I'm bitter since I only own a 1G (5GB) and a 2G (20GB) iPods and don't own the latest flavor of the month. iTunes 4.9 is great by the way. Podcasts are great to listen to in the gym.

One thing i hate about the color ipods is the size! Those things are to thick thats why i liked the old 20 gig ipod. Are these new color ipods keeping the old 20 gig size or are they bigger like the previous color ipods?????
