I'm trying to collect the entire legacy of iPods and a new (sealed in box from the factory) iPod nano 3rd gen just arrived. Unfortunately, it won't take a charge. It works when it's connected, although it tends to reboot a few times when connected to a USB the first time. I can use it as long as it's plugged in to something, and the iPod indicates that it's charging. However, as soon as I disconnect it, it's dead, not even a low-battery indicator shows up.

Does anybody recognize the problem? Is this just a bad battery or is there a bug in the hardware, perhaps software?

    Thanks for any help!

oh, btw, you can see the unboxing on youtube (I glanced over the whole battery problem thing in the video). You'll notice I switched from the Universal dock to the cable because the rebooting problem was much worse using the dock. Essentially the gray Apple would appear, the menu would appear briefly, and then it would restart. The cable was the only way to get it to connect and work at all.

    Ahhhh, that does suck.

Could be a dead battery out of the box. I had that happen with my iPhone 3G initial purchase
