dont know if you all workout or not or what your use for the nano is but for me it works out perfect...
i use it every day for working out with a rocketfish bluetooth dongle and rocketfish bluetooth headset..

love the battery indicator
i can see whats playing
never had any problems with it
battery lasts about 3 hours even with the bluetooth...
my only gripe about it is they should let you set the amount of time before shut off...id like to see this as an option...say after 2 hours no use to shut off..during the week i just charge it every day then the weekends it shuts off...no biggie really...

5th and 6th gen
A week ago I got the 8gb 6th gen and liked it, just not enough to keep. I returned it on Saturday and ordered a refurbished 16gb 5th Gen Nano from Apple online since the only used ones I could find couldn't match the Apple warranty or price. It will only be my 2nd iPod, so I'm a newbie to Apple, but not mp3 players. My first being a 32gb 3rd gen Touch. My new Nano is currently in Hong Kong on its way to the States.
I did not have any problems at all with the 6th gen. It immediately picked up radio with a very strong signal and synced without too many problems. The only ones I had were because of a new computer and the Nano was only recognizing newly ripped or downloaded songs. I had none of the battery problems that other people seem to have had. The size was a plus as well as a minus...while it is was great for working out in shuffle mode you still have to access the touchscreen to change to a different cd, podcast or audiobook. The album art filling up the entire screen was nice but had not a key selling point. In the long run, I needed the larger 16gb size and wanted the classic look of the click wheel which does make it easier to change songs without looking at the screen.
I am looking forward to getting the 5th gen Nano, but for what it is, the 6th gen is quite nice (if not overpriced) if the shuffle format is what you are looking for.

I just purchased a refurbished 4th generation from Apple's website. I did this because I can't have a camera at work, and this new Nano is unacceptable to me... I don't know what the habits are of the people on this board, but I know for ME, 99% of the time when I'm listening to my Nano, I'm using it without looking (because I'm running or DRIVING or doing some other task that does not allow me to hold up a touch screen device and tap it). That's why I had to purchase the 4th generation.
I'm mainly posting because I wanted to mention to the OP that my 4th gen that I just received is having the same "vinyl record" skip. (even after a restore)
I like my 2nd gen much better, and I still use it rather than my new one.

I just went to the Apple site and they are down some colors for the refurbished 16gb 5th gen Nanos from when I ordered it over the weekend. I don't really need, nor will I will probably use, the camera on the 5th generation model, there were no other options other than a Classic. I have a 240 gb which I use to put all my music on for use mainly at home. The Nano is more my travel size.

To me it sounds like OP is one of those people who think that all of a product are bad just because they have a bad experience with it. Personally, I don't like the new iPod nano. I think it is nothing more than an iPod shuffle with a screen. I bought one the day they arrived in stores and was unsatisfied. However, through the week that I owned one, I did not have any hardware problems at all. I simply just didn't like it. I ended up returning it and going back to my 4GB iPod nano 2G. The last great iPod in my opinion was the iPod mini. I'd still be using mine today if it weren't for the battery being shot.

First time I saw the 6th gen iPod nano was announced, I knew it felt like a downgrade. I love Steve Jobs' hypocrisy. He goes on a rant to trash his competitors that all 7 inch tablets will be DOA because their screen too small and wants to justify the current iPad's bulkiness. Yet, he sells us a a portable media player with a touchscreen with less than 2 inches? C'mon! The idea of turning it into a watch sounds too gimmicky and even dorky. I would rather have Sony Ericsson's LiveView if it can connect with my phone. Sometimes the current annual refresh from any company doesn't always feel upgrade.
IMHO, the best iPod nano they ever made was the 4th or 5th gen. The 5th gave us alot of nice features. I just hated they made it more glossy than the 4th. Based on build quality, I like the 2nd gen iPod nano the best because it brought back the anodized aluminium found on the iPod mini.
I believe if you can get a Zune HD at a reasonable discount, it offers far more value than a iPod nano at nearly the same price even if it happens to be bigger.

Wait it plays music?????? I got mine just so I could have an iWatch...lol Seriously...I am such a friggin fanboy I begged for one for just that reason. Actually wears quite well. I've had it on since 6 am when I opened it and forgot I was wearing it. LOL
