How much storage do the factory apps and items take up ? Trying to see how much storage is left on a new in box unit.

The OS with the apps is technically 2.24 gb, but generally uses up to 5 gb. A typical game can eat up 1 gb or more, so storage can get filled pretty quickly. Apple should move to 64 gb as base storage now.

Or if you're a person who filled up a 160GB classic with music years ago but hasn't gotten around to swapping the drive for an SD card, this is perfect. I've wanted a 256GB iPod for years. Why? 50% of my music is in ALAC and that means a ton of drive space is used.

If music only, even a 128 is overkill (it is for me, at least) but if you have lots of other apps, you might like the increased storage.

Extra 256G storage is relevant if you use a 3rd party app that can pass through Hi-res 24/96 to a DAC. But for 16/44.1 or 16/48 ALAC, 128 GB is more than enough

It’s not that rare. A lot of people pair iPod touches with external DACs like the Fiio Q5. Most DAPs have terrible and slow UIs so a snappy thin iPod makes a good combo.

Unless you spend an exorbitant price for those DAPs with 8 core ARM chips, iPod touch's UI and features are impeccable for the price.

I don't use an external DAC on my 6G because I use IEMs only. I can safely say the 6G is currently the best sounding Apple device I've heard. I gotta compare it with the 2019 to see if it sounds better/worse than the 6G with Campfire Audio Andromeda as my reference IEM.

here u go:
"You can keep more songs than ever on iPod touch, which now comes with up to 256GB of storage.
(Available space is less and varies due to many factors.)

A standard configuration uses approximately 10GB to 12GB of space (including iOS and preinstalled apps) depending on the model and settings.
Preinstalled apps use about 4GB,
and you can delete these apps and restore them."

I just came back from the Apple Store, with 3 256 gb space gray iPod Touches...can’t wait to load all my tunes on there, trying to decide how to divide and what not to add since I have over a terabyte of music.

With that case, maybe should’ve gotten three different colors so you could easily tell?
