iPod touch New iPod Touch 5G is Coming out in September

I don't think the iPod Touch will ever have 3G, that would make it an iPhone. I'm nervous Apple may slash it out of their products! I like the iPod and I still use it. I don't like to use my iPhone as a music device.

You're absolutely right, I'm also afraid of. Apple hasn't release new upgrades since last one and half year. If this time Apple will ignore it then it will be the matter of discussion.

A new iPod Nano with bigger screeen, new iPhone, iPad Mini dont leave much space for a iPod Touch. Can easy imagine that it get not updated anymore; except BT 4.0.

The new iPod touch will probably just have the same form factor of the new iPhone. I would maybe expect NFC, but just not 3G or anything on that side.

I doubt NFC.

Apple will not slash it. Why would they?

Really, how so. All the items you mentioned are distinct from the iPod touch.

That doesn't support your argument against Siri, as the iPad will get it with iOS 6.

The iPad has data connectivity.

----------

Apple should launch two models one should be Wi-Fi and other should be Wi-Fi + 3G

The carriers would not want that, doubt they would allow it on their network.

You're splitting hairs. It was the only exception, and they did still "alter" it in that time frame.

In a lifetime of approximately 5 years, a single year's exception constitutes a deviation of approximately 20%. That's not an insignificant sample. And no, a colour change does not count.

Anyways, Whats your thought about iOS 6?

The current iPod touch will get iOS 6. No need to wait for anything new.

iOS 6 will be coming to the current generation of iPod touch; that has already been confirmed. They will not need to introduce a whole new model just for that.

some iOS6 key new features won't be compatible with the touch 4G:

- No offline reading, no 3d maps, no shared photo streams. Of course no Siri.

So a refresh is needed to get this features unless Apple don't want to bring them to the touch. (is not the first time that Apple do that..remeber that the 4g is the first touch to get "camera".)

I think that the touch will be substituted by the iPad mini at the end, so i don't expect so much improvements for it. I vote for A6 and camera.

Wrong.

A GPS capability would be pretty useless on WiFi.

Why would GPS be useless? WiFi has nothing to do with GPS functionality if you have an app that utilizes maps stored onboard the the iPod. Personally, I use the Navigon app (paired with this GPS receiver - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M3BICU?tag=vglnk-c1020-20) but you could use any of these apps that have maps stored "offline" and don't require cellular or WiFi connectivity.

That's your opinion. Given your math, theres an 80% likely-hood of them releasing an updated iPod Touch. There's already been leaks. We know since last year was a colour change that this year it's more due for an update taking that 80% up to more like 100%. One much consider profit margins for Apple. iPod touch still costs around $120 or so to manufacture. Obviously apple margin grows if people opt for the 64Gb version of the touch.

But the low end of the iPod touch means very little profit margin to Apple. iPhone's manufacturing costs may be $170-200 because of the extra radios inside but Apple sells for $600 or so in bulk to carriers.

As more consumers get iPhones that means less need for iPod touch and many parents take out sim and let their kids use old iPhones essentially as thicker iPod touches.

The iPod lines including the touch now account for less than 7% of Apple's revenues. iPad and iPhone account for 60-70% of revenues. That's where apple is focusing.
