its funny i opened itunes and checked for updates and it said 7.7.1 is the current version but if you go here

You can use the "new" $26 headset with mic that comes with the nano on the touch, which as a Mic.

Make sure you have updated Quicktime first.
What's the point of the speaker anyway? This just leaves the ability for annoying people on the bus/train to listen to their music outloud.

I think everyone's missed this piece of news. The new headphone SJ announced, the ones with the volume controls and with the mic at the back, he said that these would work with the ipod touch as well.. so hopefully, we can expect to see skype like apps to come up on the app store and they can then be used on the ipod touch as well...

It's a trivial redesign and adds nothing to functionality of the device; most people keep their Touch in a case, so it'll go relatively unnoticed.
The speakers could have easily been there from day one.
shouldn't we just add the 10 dollars to the price difference? I mean, that is the cost of the 2.0 update.
Exactly. How many times have you fired up a game and found it quite boring without even a little bit of sound.

Nice updates, but definitely not anything that will make me want to dump my touch 1G.

1) When people want to quickly show a song/video to a friend.
and
2) When people want to clean or something without having the ipod attached to their body.
For 1), I usually carry around my earphones wherever I go, and it's not like I'm having to show people stuff every single day. Although, for some of the apps, a speaker is a must. For 2) I have a pair of easy plug-in portable speakers that do the job.
The price drop is really drastic but really nice, and I honestly wasn't expecting a 64gb, so no surprise.
On a different note, I'm kinda bummed cuz I still get the vibe that Jobs and Apple still treat the iPod touch as just another iPod/cheap iPhone, because by now it has evolved into such an amazing device. Apple should be toting it as a premier PDA. Even as I walk around my college campus, there seems to be an unsaid level of class distinction between the iPhone users and the iPod touch users. "<Gasp> Is that the iPhone?" "No, it's the touch." "Oh."

Hi All! I'm new to macrumours and just had a couple of questions....
So does anyone know if you can actually record your voice through the new headphones with the 2G iPod Touch? I dont even know if you can do it with 1G? Would love to know this - there's a couple of apps such as guitar tuner that require a microphone for it to work and would be a complete seller for me.

On apples website, it does say the headphones with the mic can work with the iPod touch 2g.
