I was one of those people that pre-ordered and was disappointed, resulting in a return to Apple. I've had every intention in getting another 8gb Ipod Touch.

So, I heard that the screen problems are fixed, and I want to get one today, but I was wondering what week I should be looking for? My first was a week 37 and it was awful with dead pixels and negative black on everything.

Even my week 38 iPod touch is perfectly fine. I've heard that week 38 was the batch that was 'fixed', so I would assume that later ipods are the same

My week 38 has a bad screen. It is too dark. But the serial number is wierd for week 38's Mine starts with 1D. This is my second my first was replaced. it failed a battery test, crashing test, screen test it was a week 37

What exactly is a week 41 and such, what does this terminology stand for?

All the iPods that i've seen (not just mine, ive seen about another 6 or so) have lines going across the screen, they are very subtle and only noticable on video playback and coverflow, but they are definitely there and get annoying after a while. I returned my week 42 because of this. I bought another and it was a week 46, which had the negative effect on it. Returned it and the new one is a week 47, this screen has some type of contrast problem - the screen seems to be too light and seems kind of washed out. It also has audio problems, I can hear crackling while listening to music and watching videos. Call me picky if you want, but i've pretty much given up on the iPhone/iPod Touch for now. Maybe i'll give it another go next month.

Wow, my local Best Buy and Future Shop had brand new shipments of Ipod Touch's with Lennon boxes, which was quite a surprise. Since they refused to match the $299 price they had on their site last night I didn't walk out happy, and without the Ipod Touch. Hopefully I can get one when I go down to Bellingham.

Now I know Canada and the US have different serials to tell them apart, but it shouldn't effect anything, right?

well, based on what I've read here, the week number now is really a non-issue, unless its weeks 37-38. other than that, they are fine, or at least problems that are arising aren't week-related.

I've still heard of weeks 37 and 38's with problems, but my local stores have the newest batch, which are also the Lennon boxes.

yeah, they still have the problems, but were in what... week 45? unless your buying it used, you dont really need to worry about getting one from 7-8 weeks back :)

I bought my touch the first day it was released in Spain ( 2nd Oct week )... and when I walked out of the Apple store I noticed it was week 37 !!!

BUT ... mine works fine , no issues with the screen whatsoever

Saludos

Answer his question guys. Gosh.

The ones that released this past week were Week 46's. Week 47's are the brand new ones, but they might be hard to find.

It's no problem, dude. I like hearing everyone's stories. The Touch I purchased is a Week 45 w. Macy Gray. Funny thing is, the one right beside it in the display case was a week 38...

My answer = Week 41. And onward. Flawless. Gosh.

Just picked up a week 43 from Amazon on their Black Friday 10% off sale. I immediately opened it up tonight, updated the firmware and loaded up some songs and videos. Wow, just an incredible piece of engineering.

My wife is making me give it back to her to wrap up and put under the tree. Bummer.

I'm really torn on if I should wait on a 32 gb version. But, if that happens it happens. I just hope it doesn't happen in January. That would really blow.

I have looked at apple's ipod update history and I just don't think there'll be a 32gb upgrade until next summer.

I've got a Week 47 :)

Ordered directly from Apple. Got it this morning, and the installation of software is due soon..

Neither do I think they will be doing any upgrade to the current line of iPods. I think they will introduce some kind of new MacBook or similar ultraportable device to fill up the gap between the current MacBooks and iPod Touch. By summer time probably the iPhone will get a very nice upgrade.

Week 37 here: I had screen issues, but they were fixed in v1.1.
