I've left my phone virgin since I bought it during the 3G rollout, but finally deviced to take the plunge when I saw some cool apps like PDANet. So, I'm a N00B, and I Jailbroke my phone with QuikPwn which worked great!

My frustration lies with the fact that there are no clear compatibility reports in Cydia about each of the apps you download. It seems like 75% of the apps I have tried don't work with the new 2.2 firmware. Some of these include the AppFlow program which uses coverflow to navigate apps. I also tried Dock, which also does not seem to work, when I do the little swoosh, my contacts come up but when I click on a contact my phone locks up and I have to reboot it. I realize that some of these will be fixed in the future, but in the meantime it's real frustrating to download all these apps and not know if the issue is with the 2.2 firmware, or is it my phone, the app, am I doing something wrong?

On the other hand, PDANet works GREAT. Even on an EDGE connection at my parents house up in the mountains, surfing the web worked great. I wouldn't try to download anything, but just reading blogs, the news, etc, it works great on EDGE.

So, i guess as a N00B to all this, can anyone point me to some good sites which have a lot of useful information, or is this forum the best place to find stuff?

It is true that a lot a apps are not compatible with the new 2.2 firmware but you can download a a package called "backwards compatiblity" and that should help some of the apps working on 2.2. Also for PDANet, it has a timed expiration on it so at some point it will stop working and ask you to buy it. If you want some more info to work around this email me at craigkadoya@gmail.com and don't be afraid to ask me any other questions on Cydia/cracked apps/patching apps/anything on a jailbroken iphone.

    Jailbreak 2.2 issues also

[I am having the issue that when i jailbreak 2.2 on my iphone 3g that i can no longer make calls! I do click activate phone during the process and this doesnt work. I restored and tried again without clicking activate phone and got the same result. The jailbreak is there and works but turns my iphone into a ipod touch. Any ideas??? I did this on a macbook laptop(not newer styles)

That is why I am staying on a JB version of 2.2 until the dev team release their unlock.

Maybe you accidentally jailbreaked the iPod touch firmware 2.2 instead of the iPhone firmware 2.2? Check and make sure

No issues at all here with 2.2. My advice is to do a little research on apps before you download. Those two apps you mentioned are junk IMO, and I would not install that backwards app or whatever it's called. You will find that there are a lot better options out there.

Dock works. It's just not very intuitive.

Start sliding your thumb from before the beginning of the touch screen (near the home button).

    There's a way around that--

Add this repo to Cydia: http://iphone.org/hk/apt/

With that repo, you can download the previous (non-trial) version. :)

You can find PDAnet torrent on Demonoid if you are member to get the fix for it to work. You have to have in mind that lots of eye candy apps will slow down your phone and stability is lost as well. Have in mind you are changing the OS.
