Hello! I am the creator of the DungeonDiver series of games. I just released today the first beta build of the 4th entry in the series. I'm open to any and all feedback, and am willing to change pretty much anything in order to make the game better (except for the programming language). The game is themed after previous entries in the series, which were all "endless" RPGs.

The game and its source code are available here: http://www.puttysoftware.com/dungeondiver4/

Unfortunately due to the security issues that keep arising with java, I won't have it on my Mac.

    What security issues?
The one that if you are running an older version of java and running an applet in a browser and then decide to visit a malicious web page?

This really doesn't have anything to do with java applications just old school applets.

I do admit, Oracle failed on this one. They pretty much took over Sun to close up OpenSolaris development ( personal note: I dislike Oracle for this ) and grab up their patents. It seems they didn't even know they have responsibility for a programming language.
    ---------------------------------------------------
Oracle top brass: Oooo, look at all the patents.
Phone call in: something very bad can happen if the java bug is not taken care of.
Phone call out of office: Secretary, please clean out the coffee pot immediately, the coffee has bugs in it.
Brass: Another day at the office, that's why they pay me the BIG bucks.
    ---------------------------------------------------
    just me

Update: I have discovered a bug that makes battles almost unwinnable if the monster uses a spell on you. The symptom is that all your modified stats are set to 0 or less, making your attacks worthless and nullifying any defenses you have. Also, poison effects instantly kill you.

At this point I'm trying to decide whether looking into the code some more to track down this bug would be worth it (I've spent a week so far investigating, have yet to find the root cause), or to do something more drastic (such as rewriting the game in another programming language).

Maybe you could just name the monster spell "Armageddon" and if users complain about it simply tell them it is functioning as designed. :D

I'm not sure what to tell you there. Tracking down that bug and learning what caused it would be instructive but then you are already a week into working on that with no joy yet.

You wouldn't be the first one to toss a project and start over, even a very involved one. In the famous, "Code Complete" book written by a former software engineer at Microsoft he discussed a project that got so out of hand they threw away a very large amount of code and money to start all over again. So even the big guys go through this sometimes.
