Hey guys so at the moment i have a mid 2011 Macbook Air and i would like to upgrade my Laptop for school. I just don't know which computer to get as i have a $800 budget. i would like a macbook pro but all of the models i see have 4GB of ram in it and i want at least 8GB in it. But then i started to think should i get a gaming laptop as i like to play games on my pc. So what should i do? Try to find a Macbook and cut some corners in the specs of it or try to find a pretty nice gaming laptop?

Seems to me you answered your question. You said it is for school so I would get whatever you need to help with your major in school! They didn't have one for gaming when I went only fortran cards. Do they have a gaming major now?

Other than just "school" what are going to using it for. If it is just word processing, web browsing and emails then 4gb of ram is more than enough. Your school usage may be drastically different than mine and warrent more ram, but I suspect that a base model MBP would be perfect. As for gaming, if you already have a dedicated PC for that then I see no need to get another PC just for the added convenience.

Would you sell your Macbook Air as well or is your budget apart from that? Also, I've heard that MacBooks (even the Pros) are not that great for gaming, so you might want to consider waiting for more powerful models in the Fall (just a suggestion).

Are there good gaming laptops for $800?

Anyway - you need to focus on school. Don't introduce a new distraction by getting a school computer just to play games on.

I'm going back too, and am taking a surface pro 3 with me. Maybe look at those (I got the i5 128gb version for slightly over $800 at Best Buy (sale plus movers coupon) keyboard is an extra $130 though).

But whatever you do - I would leave gaming out of it. keep it on your desktop, and the new device only for school..
