This new MacBook Pro is a result of "We don't know how to make a classic design better, so we're gonna make it look like a Microsoft product". That's how it seems to me. Not a fan at all. Apple is getting really lazy with design.

I just don't get why anyone would want USB-A ports at all. I certainly don't. I'd love to see both sides lined with USB-C ports, like 5x on each side or whatever can fit. USB-C is backwards compatible with almost everything and this is all you need:

Exactly! This things are so cheap - you can leave them on the USB-A device and it would not impact you at ALL. I would hardly even consider them a "dongle".

I just don't get why anyone would want USB-A ports at all. I certainly don't. I'd love to see both sides lined with USB-C ports, like 5x on each side or whatever can fit. USB-C is backwards compatible with almost everything and this is all you need:

FWIW, the Sandisk 1TB Extreme portable SSD comes with a little 6" USBC-to-USBC cable with a USBC-F to USBA-M adapter on one end.

Sort of a clever "choose your own cable" setup for whichever config is best for you.

I also see more and more switch-hitting flash drives on the market, as well as some switch-hitting memory card readers. Haven't really needed any so haven't bought them.

Wow, that's a big advantage. Add in the SD card slot, MagSafe and these expanded ports give all the flexibility people have been craving.

It's going to be a very exciting MacBook Pro release. Wow.

I personally like the language that people use to discuss these sorts of things. One of my big pushes as a therapist is helping people to monitor the language we use both externally and in our head (it's usually quite similar). "Horrendous! I pray! Disaster! Awful!" Whatever happened to "meh, it's not my preference"?

Ok I really hope Apple doesn’t mess up the MBP’s designs after the iMac fiasco. But I wouldn’t be surprised.

The new leaks based on the leaked CADs show a much less elegant and less premium looking MBP from the sides. They’re actually thicker too. I really hope the damn HDMI port was worth it. Because now with the Silicon CPU’s inside making the MBP’s thicker is not necessary.

But HDMI port or not it just looks odd. The ports are not centered on the sides. Why would Apple do this? It looks so cheap. And apparently the mockups are based 100% on the leaked CAD designs.

We have to wait and see but I pray they don’t pull an iMac with the MBP’s.

They weren't leaked CADs. They were leaked schematics. The proportions aren't what the final product would look like, as schematics are usually rough sketches of the product and its internals.

Get over it, honestly dude. I would take a thicker more functional laptop any day over one that's thin and lacking (Like every MacBook is currently).

Stop obsessing with making devices thinner. It's a bad trend that needs to go the way of the dodo.

You mean used by the cheap cable included with devices with the quarter-century old plug on the end?

*shrug* Device cables are easily and inexpensively replaced for the data devices you need to connect to the computer rather than power sources.

Move forward, don't stay stuck in the past with your PS/2 mice & keyboards, DB9 connected 1200baud modem, and Centronics printer cables.

USB-A is still valuable, especially while we're still currently transitioning to USB-C. Removing it from devices cheapens them and makes them less useful (or creates a mess of adapters). You can't equate USB-A to the same as PS/2 or dial-up, that's completely asinine and a bad argument to make.

This forum is full of people who obsess over thin devices. Thin doesn't make a device better, not by any means.

I'll just be glad if Apple announces a new Mac Pro that will be available within the next year. It's been years since the last refresh.
