I purchased a new Logitech SLIM FOLIO PRO backlit keyboard/case for my new 4th gen. iPad Pro 12.9. Previously I had a Logitech Create keyboard for my 1st gen. iPad Pro.

Aside from the new Slim Folio Pro being heavier & bulkier than the Create, there are some design flaws I find untenable. Before disposing of it, I'm wondering if others have experienced similar irritation, and perhaps found some work-arounds:

- The new Slim Folio does not automatically charge itself through Bluetooth from the iPad, as did the Create. You have to plug a USB-C cable into it's own separate port. Why?? As long as I kept my older iPad plugged into to its own charging port,I never had to think twice about the keyboard working. Now I have to remember to charge 2 separate devices to make the combination work. What were they thinking?
- On the new Slim Folio (not-slim!) the backlit keys turn off after less than 3 seconds, and there is no way to adjust this duration. If you're composing an long email or other doc, you will naturally pause, sometimes for 15 or 30 seconds, to think of what you want to say next. If you are writing at night in a darkened bedroom, after 3 seconds you cannot see any of the keys, to start typing again. I can hit the space bar, which does relight the backlit keys, but also messes with my formatting, and the typist should not have to do this repeatedly while composing a doc. Once again, what were they thinking??
- The "screen Brightness" buttons no longer seem to increase/decrease the actual iPad display brightness, only 3 stages of brightness for the backlit keys. On the Create, they did actually increase/decrease the screen brightness - which is much more important to be regularly regulated. Once again, what...??

I can't help thinking Logitech's keyboard designers took two steps backward instead of forward, or were perhaps on acid, when they made these decisions. I'm very close to returning it, the only problem being, the CREATE keyboard will not work with the newer iPad.

Your thoughts, suggestions, work-arounds? Thanks

The Create did not charge through Bluetooth - that is not possible - it charged through its Smart Connector connection. I resume the backlight with toggling the Control key, which has no effect on formatting. There are only the backlight brightness buttons, nothing for the display, so I just use the corner pulldown menu and don't find it a problem as I'm not constantly changing the brightness. Definitely some compromises but I prefer it - and its price - over what else is available.

Yes, through Smart Connector - momentary brain/tech fart .
Toggling control key definitely more expedient than the space bar to relight , thanks. Though, seriously, no 'user choice' to set backlit time (like, say, the up-to-5-minute auto-lock choice on IOS devices?) I'm betting it wouldn't have increased Logitech's price much to have added that.
And giving up the screen brightness buttons (which Logitech still calls them!) to become seldom-used keyboard backlit gradations...sorry, totally unnecessary design flaw. I don't change my screen brightness too often, either, but definitely more often that backlit brightness.
The bulky corners definitely offer more drop protection than the older Create, as does the thick closing clasp, so that's a plus. And of course, the keys are heaven to type on compared to any other products key-feel. But I do wish they would found a way to keep the keyboard charged through its connection with the device - even thought the Smart Connector is missing from newer iPads. How does the iPad receive the other keyboard commands?

New iPads still have Smart Connectors, just located differently -

Yes, Logitech could have done better and I wish they did but other options are limited. The new Magic Keyboard is grossly overpriced and has no function keys, the Brydge looks good but I'm not high on the hinge attachment mechanism. Choices are slim.

Just got the 4th Gen Slim Folio Pro for my 5th Gen 12.9 iPP and it fits just fine, full functionality. I tried the Logitech Combo Touch but returned it - I didn't really care for its keyboard and I prefer using a mouse or a trackpad offset to the side, not centered in front of the keys (I have the Magic Trackpad 2 and MX Master 3 mouse). The Slim Folio Pro is also available at a much cheaper price - $88.
