Just got the 16 M1 max model and the pro motion is really bad, it’s good on the ui like swiping pages but on safari it’s actually more choppy than my old 16” i9 also the speakers are not as loud as the older MacBook Pro and it doesn’t sound better if anything the highs are better on the last model, also the display is the exact same brightness than the 2019 MacBook and using 4k hdr on YouTube it’s only slightly better, so to be honest everything apple said about it is minor I expected a big change with the display but it’s just not there; anyone have any views on this
Apparently the period key is broken too. Why is no one taking about that?

Idk if people need to justify their purchase to make themselves feel better, or maybe you guys don’t even have the machine. But how...how can anyone defend Apple today? I mean just look at this I am a long time Apple fan and I have never seen a release of a product this botched. Holy s**t I cannot believe Apple shipped this computer. The 16” starts at $2500. Twenty five hundred dollars! Jesus Christ.

Menu bar labels will jump to the other side of the notch if need be. Apple probably didn't check (or doesn't care) if someone is running 30 icons so MacOS so it just lets them run through the notch area.

iStat menus will probably ship an update in short order to account for the notch to hide items that can't fit. Also someone should send a bug report to Apple.

I'm not a YouTube grifter like Quinn trying to drum up a controversy to get clicks and $$$, and I don't load up my menubar with a bunch of **** so this issue doesn't really bother me.

When people say Steve would have never allowed this type of stuff, this is exactly what they are talking about.

I can't really comment on ProMotion as I've had no issues with it. Mostly I'm unable to tell the difference between the new MBP and my old Late 2016 model but I certainly wouldn't describe it as laggy or choppy. Strangely, when I manually set the refresh rate to 60Hz, scrolling this forum in Safari is absolutely horrible. It seriously lags.

As for the sound, it's night and day better than the Late 2016 MBP. A much, much richer, fuller sound. It has slightly less top-end but I'm uncertain if that's simply because it's being drowned out by the increased mids and bass. If it bothered me, I'm sure I could EQ it to my liking anyway.

Even if he has a point, he is insufferable, as is most of the whinging about the notch.

Got the m1max today and was suprised of the chopiness / ghosting when scrolling. I didnt have any Knowledge of this issue so i wasnt looking for it. It s probably stronger than in dark mode. i belive the issue is more the jutter after each scroll than the ghosting. Its night and day compared to the ipad i have.
Anybody has multiple machines here of the new MB? Maybe its a quality control thing.

You guys should check out the other thread regarding issues with the screen ghosting and smearing.

It is downright the biggest display (pun intended) of fanboyism I have ever seen in my life. My 16 inch just arrived and instantly the smearing was noticeable anytime white text in dark mode moves across the screen. Videos of anything even remotely moving quickly looks like I'm playing a Metal Gear Solid game on the PS1 with all the ghosting. The craziest part is that everyone is saying how its perfectly fine and that its the "best screen ever on a laptop", a complete joke.

Its a huge shame because the laptop is soooooo close to perfect but this screen definitely ain't it. Everyone is ooh ahh'ing about the the colors and contrast ratio which are undoubtedly good but what's the point of all that if every time you scroll the content looks like its haunted?

Ha, more like the biggest display of trolling. Hard for some people to understand the concept of other people not being them. Different people value different things in a screen.

It's my guess that your device is faulty. You have 15 days to return it, otherwise set up an appointment at the Genius Bar. I would bet it's a power supply problem (affecting more than one feature).

My new 16" pro has an amazing display and, as a discerning semi-audiophile, I'm really surprised at how really good audio is, especially considering the fact that they're laptop speakers.

Yeah like some people value a fuzzy smeared image when scrolling, or watching any kind of media.

Here are two images I took:
The top image is a now 5 year old Dell 120hz monitor with the bottom being the 2021 16 inch macbook pro.

It boggles my mind that there are people (lots of them) that'll go to great lengths to defend their purchase with such statements when it is objectively leagues behind something that isn't even a premium product.

Thanks for illustrating my point. What's important to people about a screen isn't an objective thing, it's a matter of personal preference. Not everyone is you. Amazing to me how much trouble some have with that concept.

"I don't care that it is bad"

That's the concept you're outlining right now, that's what it boils down to. Believe it or not if that spec or characteristic is fixed and/or better, the people that are already happy with their device would be EVEN happier. In what universe is "I don't care" a defense for something that is measurably bad?

Asking more from the world's most profitable electronics manufacturer in no way hurts consumers. Then again, its people like you that defend bad specs with such asinine statements are the reason Apple gets away with putting together turd parts, giving it fancy names, and selling it at the price of gold.

Just amazing. What it boils down to is what I already said: Not everyone is you. Seems such a fundamental, and simple, idea in life, yet some just can't grasp it.
