After being down for several hours today, the Apple Developer Page came back online with significant changes.

It appears that the ADC Premier, Select, and Student accounts will no longer exist (current ADC members will retain all privileges until their accounts expire). That also means there will no longer be hardware discounts, WWDC tickets, or compatibility labs included.

The new Mac Developer Program now resembles the iPhone Developer Program, running $99/yr for all individuals. The program includes pre-release software for all members.

Could this mean a Mac App Store is in the pipeline? I'm not sure, but it certainly seems a possibility.

There was a discussion on this topic back in October. Here's the link.

Yeah, I remember reading that. It is a little more interesting now that the Mac dev program is somewhat mirroring the iPhone program. Perhaps they want to include more developers. At $99 they may be able to entice some of us iPhone devs to make stuff for Mac OS X. I think that is the more likely scenario, but a Mac app store would be interesting.

I couldn't care less about a Mac Store.

Cheaper Membership and Pre Release software is all that matter to me. :D

Off topic slightly but when does a student account expire?

And in the current economic situation thinking that student will be able to hand over $99 or however much it will be in pounds is silly. Although adding in the free pre-release software would be a bonus.

When my student account expires I'll still grudgingly handover $99.
