Hi,

Just got a new macbook pro 13. Is my first mac and I want to know what are the important apps to download. Thank you.

First thing to worry about is getting a good backup drive. Then a good program to get is Carbon Copy Cloner. It will do a clone of your hard-drive. Should your internal HDD ever fail , you can then boot from your external drive. To me, having a backup is always my first priority.

the apps to download will depend on what you want to do with the Mac.

There are numeous threads, easily found via search, about essential apps.

  • Firefox

That's all you need.

If you want an alternate browser, you want Chrome. Personally, I think you're silly if you think any other browser has anything on Safari. (Although Trailblazer looks interesting... but it hasn't been updated in a decade. I've thought about making a new browser with similar features to it...)

Personally, I think the only browser worse than Safari is IE.
