    Hello,

I just got my mini, and I do a lot of multi-tasking and in need to upgrade the ram. I'd rather not get 2x2gig, but would prefer 3 gig over 2gig. Can i buy a 2gig stick to match with with 1gig, or do they need to be identical in size.

    i.e. 2x 512mb, 2x 1gig or 2x 2gig?

    Thanks,

    Kx

Yeah, should work. You'll lose some speed in doing so (since you won't be running them in dual-channel) but jumping from 2GB to 3GB would make up for it.

I'd go ahead and just do 2x2GB myself, RAM's cheap enough and they're difficult enough to open that I wouldn't want to open it again to go from 3GB to 4GB. :)

if your going to spend 30 for one two gig stick why not just buy the crucial 4 gig kit for 53.00 and sell your one gig for 10 bucks?

Why would you prefer 3GB over 4GB? The price difference is negligible. The biggest pain is doing the actual installation without breaking any clips.

A 2GB Crucial chip on its own is $28.99 plus shipping ($2.99) at Newegg. A 2X2GB set is $52.99 and free shipping. Please explain to me the thought process of 3GB vs. 4GB.

The prices looking here its 40 bucks for a 2 gig still and 100 for 4 gig. I was going to get either another 1 gig or 2gig stick..where can i get 4gig crucial for that cheap in Canada?

    Thanks again,

    Kx

Buy from Crucial for $65.99 USD. You will have to pay tax but I think the shipping is still free.

Dual channel isn't really needed on the latest nvidia machines. The older Mini's needed dual channel to stop the Intel Integrated graphics from performing like crap.

Just get 4GB. For under £50 here (from Crucial) it was a no brainer.
