I recently updated my mac mini from a 2009 to a 2012 model. On the new 2012 model, when it wakes up there is a 3-5 second delay until the ethernet connection is reestablished. That's a new behavior from the my old mini to the new one.

The problem is that the Mac is also unavailable for airtunes playing (via remote or Apple TV) when it sleeps. I do have "Wake for network access" checked and it makes no difference - unless I physically wake the new mini, it's not available.

Besides just turning sleep off, any ideas on how to get it to wake for music serving? Again, this is a new behavior on the 2012 model vs. my 2009 model.

I've just noticed this with the 2012 Mini i've been configuring - no one answered this then - is there a fix? Looking at the network panel with the ethernet jack unplugged and then plugging in, it does nothing for several seconds and then picks up the connection. My old Mini does it at once.

I've had this problem with a few Macs in our building at work (not for music streaming issues, just that it annoyed the user they had to wait for internet). So far we haven't come up with a solid solution. Sometimes turning portfast on for that port on our cisco switches has helped, but sometimes not. Also, reinstalling OS X hasn't fixed it either. We've just solved it by disabling sleep. It's a rather perplexing problem.

I have 3 mac mini 2012 and I do not have any issue with ethernet. Macs usually would make request to renew DHCP on wake if it is expired, if your DHCP is slow - you would get a delay. My minis would wake up when I attempt to access share from remove machine. There is a few seconds delay after clicking on sleeping mini icon and until I could access remote share (it is fully awake). Another thing to check is how long your DHCP leases address, I would configure lease for folks in the office for a week, guests for 24 hours to reduce overhead.
